Spinoff: What brand of Hair Clippers is the best buy?

Ask:
I also have been cutting DH & 3DS's hair for over 12 years. My Wahl hair clipper has conked out the other night and I am needing to replace it. I was looking online to see what is available and found a few different brands along with a wide price range. Are the inexpensive ones worth it? Which brand is the best buy and what is a reasonable/fair price?

Thanks

i used to be a hair stylist and i prefer oster clippers over wahl ones... my next question is did the blade just get dull or did the whole clipper die? if the blade is just dull save yourself some money and go to a sallys beauty type store(open to the public) and get a replacement blade... they cost about 30 bucks for a new blade(if you do your familys hair i recomend at least replacing 2 times a year for a good cut)... if you need a whole new clipper i would still go to a store like sallys to get one instead of your walmart or target they sell the heavy duty ones there...plus they run sales... i paid $ 69 for my oster over 10 years ago and it still works like a charm i just buy new replacement blades there... they also sell the little trimmers to do around the neck and ears to get a closer shave there you can buy a cheap one of those(you can also replace those blades) wich really finish off a haircut nicely just like the salon...good luck... i would spend a little money on one and get a good heavy duty one then all you will have to due is get a new blade when it gets dull wich could be once a year or less depending on how many cuts you do.....

I think the clipper died. It seemed to really slow down, even stopped running, going through the hair and if I turned it off and restarted it would go. It really seemed to have problems going through the slight wet/damp hair. So I am kinda of thinking that it is a motor issue and not a blade one???

Thanks for your help.

Oster are good but kind of expensive. We buy the Wahl brand of clippers and have been really happy with them. The replacement blades for the Wahls are easy to find -- here is a little trick to keep in mind the people wahl clippers are the same as the stable pro horse clippers sold in farm and horse stores. Buy your replacement blades there and they are half the price of buying the people ones in the stores. They are the same blade and line up perfectly and cut the same. We have horses and found this little secret when I was cutting hair for a wedding and needed a new blade ASAP.
