Tornado watch??

Ask:
We have a tornado watch until 6 tonight!!
we never get tornado>>>>
Where would we go?? The Basement???
Answer:

Absolutely go to the basement and stay near a main wall away from windows. Prayers on the way.
Answer:

Yep. Go to the basement.

Where are you at (state)?
Answer:

A watch just means that conditions are right for a tornado to form. You need to be on alert for Warnings!! Those mean a tornado has been spotted and take cover!! If you have a basement go there, if not an interior room with no window or under a staircase. Bathrooms are good because the plumbing reinforces the walls.
Answer:

For just a watch, you don't really need to go anywhere. A watch just means that the conditions are right for a tornado. If there is a warning, you should go directly to the basement (a warning means that a tornado has been spotted or is forming, and you could be in immediate danger).
Answer:

I'm in Mass...
Answer:

Aahh...you are probably getting what we had yesterday. It got pretty ugly here for a while.

Good luck and just keep an eye on it. I tend not to pay too much attention to watches, but I do keep a slight watch on it.

Yep, we are used to these in the midwest. We will keep you in our prayers.
Answer:

We were under a watch last night! Scary.

We are in a tornado prone area here. We even do tornado drills as school.

Watch: Keep checking online or on the TV or radio. If it becomes a warning then funnel clouds have been spotted in the area.

Keep your music off, and the TV or radio turned to low and your windows open a crack. If there is a tornado, you will hear it coming.

If the sky gets very dark / sort of greenish, go to the basement, stay away from windows, hunch down with your back towards a wall, preferably in a windowless inside room (furnace room).

I've been through one and it was scary! Keep safe.
Answer:

Don't get to alarmed over a watch. Not to say that they aren't serious but it just means that the conditions Could develop one. A warning is the more serious of the two. If you were told to take cover then yes go to your basement. Make sure if you do have to take cover you all have shoes on. Something most people don't think about.

I've been through several tornadoes (living in tornado alley) just stay away from windows and outside walls. A basement is a really good place to be. .
