Supper clubs

Ask:
My DH spoke to his grandparents yesterday and they had an idea that we should create a supper club with them, my FIL & step-MIL, and DH's aunt & uncle. Each month one couple would host the other three for dinner.

We thought this sounded like a fun idea. I like to have people over for dinner because I can make dessert - recipes are too much for just DH and me.

Do any of you do anything like this? What kind of dinners do you serve?
Answer:

That is actually a great idea if you have the right group of friends or family-we dont do that but I host get togethers at my house AT LEAST once a month.

I make the baked ziti recipe I have posted(its a family favorite for the kids and adults)salad, bread and dessert.

I do alot of the "build your own"ideas also...tacos,baked potatoes, subs etc.And I usually try to pair it with a build your own dessert(sundae or shortcake bar)Everyone just seems to really have fun with this.

We also like:

pasta and alfredo with grilled chicken and broccoli
scalloped potatoes, corn on the cob and grilled kielbasa
grilled fajitas with the works
a soup bar is great in the fall/winter
grill burgers and do a burger bar with some crock pot baked beans and loaded potato salad
I do alot of kabobs also....its a great way to stretch meats

I try to really keep it fun....I had planned one last year and ended up short on money and did a "weenie bar"...we grilled hot dogs and I made tons of diff sauces and stuff to go with-it ended up being one of everyones favorite and their already talkin about doin it again

my only added tip is to keep your camera handy.....once a simple dinner turns into a good time you can usually get some good shots!!!

GREAT POST!!!
Hope people try this idea if able....its a good one!!!

I belong to a supper club with 2 other couples & their families. It's a total of 11 people. We get together once a month on a Saturday night & have supper & play UNO. The kids play well together. We pretty much don't hear a peep from them the whole evening. It's a great time & it's a nice thing to do to stay connected with friends. Whomever is hosting it decides what we're having & does the main dish. Another couple makes a dessert & a 3rd couple makes a dish to go along with the main dish. It works out well. The 2 visiting couples get to decide what dish they're making. Everyone is happy with this arrangement. It's so much fun. I recommend others try it.

How fun! I would love to join a supper club, perhaps later in life... Anyway, two great websites to check out are tasteofhome.com and cookinglight.com - those are two of my favorite magazines and I know that cooking light has a section just on supper clubs.. good luck and keep us posted!
