Ask:
Hi everyone,
My husband and our 4 yr old DD are driving out to San Diego from AZ for a long over due and much needed vacation. We're staying 2 nights at Hotel Circle, and I was lucky enough to score discount tickets to Sea World through work.
We'll have a mini fridge and microwave in our hotel room, and we plan to do a lot of picnicing while there. We'll do bagels in our room for breakfast, picnic for lunch and ??? for dinner. It's the ??? for dinner that I'm concerned about. lol I'm hoping for tips in keeping down our food bill. Has anyone vacationed in this area recently and can advise on nearby restaurants? A Sizzler would be great because we can fill up there. Or if there are any adventurous hotel room chefs out there, I'd love to hear some advice.
Thanks!
Lisa
Answer:
I will think on the resturants- though bring snacks and your own water into Sea World. The prices are crazy for food/drinks. I packed peanut butter sandwiches and juices boxes and water and took it inside. There are plenty of places to sit and eat on your own.
Bring a stroller- if you have a fold up one. It is a lot of walking for a 4 yr old. Also a great place under the astroller to hold the food.
Have fun
Answer:
We bring our own food with us each year when we go to San Diego. We also hit a grocery store for things like bread and milk, cheese, etc...
We bring our own food into Sea World each time also. They may poke into your bag a little, but I pack the food on bottom and cameras etc.. on top. Last year they didn't even look at all.
As for dinners.... well, we usually stay for 6 nights. I'll try to remember what we did this last trip: One night we grilled on the bbq (the hotel has grills). One night we got pizza, which also provided some leftovers for the following day. One night we got McDonalds (we have food allergies/issues with our kids and eating out is difficult. McD's is easy and not too much $$.) One night we ate at a nice restaurant on Cornodo Island (that's where we stay each time), which was our "splurge" night. Another night we just grabbed burritos from Rubios. I can't remember the 6th night, but we might have just tried to finish up what was in the refrigerator so we didn't have to toss it or pack it.
I don't know of any Sizzlers, but there is a Marie Callendar's on Coronado Island, which was probably the cheapest "sit-down" style restaurant.
Have a great time!!!
Answer:
I can't really help much in the restaurant area--we stayed downtown and all of our meals seemed pretty pricey--but I have to agree with pp's who mentioned bringing your own food into Sea World. That is definitely the way to go.
Enjoy!! We had so much fun on our San Diego trip.
