I need your ideas!

Ask:
I'm *trying* to come up with a way for the kids at Rugby's birthday party to either make or take a treasure chest home with them. I don't have enough shoe boxes. Any ideas on cheap alternatives? Thanks!

Hi - Newbie here,

I think you mentioned you were having a pirate party. I had one for my oldest a couple of years ago and bought those small wooden treasure chests at AC Moore for under $1.00 each. I also bought some marker pens and stickers so the kids could decorate them. Finally, I gave each child a few gold chocolate coins as their "treasure" to take home as a momento (also served as the goody bag). Pretty cheap overall, and they were well liked...

Wonder if McDonald's would sell you (cheap!) some of their Happy Meal boxes??? They could decorate them and they fold up at top.
Answer:

It is not a treasure box....but maybe those plastic Index card boxes at Office Depot or Staples....usually they are under a $1 or $2..if I remember correctly. And you could decorate those....but if you can find the real thing like lovemy2boys suggested...go for that!!

I wish we had an AC Moore near here....I searched their website and the nearest one is PA....we're in WI. lol! Thanks for the idea, though. I'll have to check some of the craft stores a bit closer.

Some ideas:

Oriental Trading had a ton of kits that were not too expensive.

Detergent boxes, they are a good size and pretty common, a lot have flip top lids, I bet if you ask you neighbors/friends you could find some. Just wrap them in brown paper sacks and let the kid go to town with markers, glue on jewels, etc.

I have done treasure boxes for kids summer camps with Pencil boxes. Wal-Mart or similar store usually has them for < $1. They are red/blue, but you can use paint markers to change the colors.

Not a treasure box, but we did "goblets" for each kid. We bought the cheat "goblet" style summer plastic glasses and added "jewels" to make them look like they were from a treasure chest. The kids got to take them home with their treasure chest.

HAVE FUN!!! I LOVE TO DO KIDS PARTIES!
