Ask:
I know a few of us have discussed posting what we plan to do with our Angel Food packages. I finally had a chance to sit down and plan a few meals with mine....here they are:
Here is what i have planned for the May Angel Food:
NY Strip Steaks - I am going to make steak salad - if the steaks are decent sized I will use 2 for that and grill the other 2 for and serve with baked potatoes and grilled veggies.
IQF Thighs, I will make the Ranch Chicken recipe mommy2mercedes posted recently, I am going to make potatoe salad with it and brussel sprouts
Beef and Bean Burritos - my DH snacks on them or has a couple for lunch when he is home.
Banquet Beef and Noodle I will serve with Angel Food Biscuit (Mix) and saute some squash
Breaded frying Chicken - I will make with the Mac and cheese also on angel food, and the Angel Food Green Beans
Ground Beef, Pasta Sauce, Pasta - depending ont he pasta I will make "Goulash" We just cook the macaroni, fry the meat add the sauce stir it into the pasta and add mozzerella cheese. Bake until the cheese melts. I will serve salad with this.
Hash brown potatoes will be a sunday breakfast with omelets (bell peppers and pepperjack cheese)
Popcorn Chicken is for my salads to take to work. I add a few pieces to a tossed salad and use ranch dressing.
The pie I am saving for when we are invited to a friends house for dinner.
Pepperoni Pizza sticks - another snack for DH
Bean Soup Mix I am saving to make bean soup gifts, you layer the ingredients in a canning jar and attach the receipe. I give them to family and fiends for christmas.
Corn Tortilla's I will either make Quesedillas. I will make a mock taco salad with mexican rice instead of taco beef.
I got 8 meals with just a few extra things I will need to either buy or pull from my pantry/freezer. I am feeding only 2.5 people now (the 0.5 person is my vegetarian son.)
Does anyone else have a plan for their Angel Food this month? I'd love to see it... it might give me better ideas for my own.
Answer:
Good job I am impressed.
I just found out what Angel Food Ministries is through you guys. Well we had a meeting at my church today on how to help the community more. NO one had ever heard of this. My minister asked me find out more information to present to the Mission Committee. WOW wish me luck.
ETA: May I use your menu as part of the presentation?
Answer:
Way to go!
I have chicken tenders in the freezer that I think on the directions only say deep fat fry. Have you ever just baked them instead? If so at what temp and for how long?
Answer:
I always bake the chicken tenders/popcorn chicken/breaded filets/breaded whole pieces regardless of what the packages call for and have never had a problem. Nothing against frying per se, I just don't like dealing with the mess when I don't have a dedicated fryer.

Yes you may... any may I suggest you set up a person with a box to collect any unwanted foods to be distributed to the food bank or supplement the boxes you give away to needy families. I always get at least one thing in my box I am not crazy about so I suggested this to our church - it's a huge hit! They get enough food to fill 2 or 3 boxes every month.

I have baked and even microwaved them in a pinch (like when I am at work.) I don't like to fry - it is really unhealthy for me and DH.
Answer:
Thanks, I will do that! Our church is pretty small so I dint know if this would be too much but I hope they do consider it (angel food Ministries)
We have a monthly community meal, which is always successful. We do food drives often. IE we have a monthly Friday night flick and admission is a can of food. Great suggestion if they take this on.

(Someone let me know if this isn't allowed, some boards would consider this to promotional - I have no officially affiliation with either of these groups, just a reader!)
I belong to a couple of Yahoo Groups that are mainly for discussion of Angel Food / sharing related menus if anyone is interested.
AngelFoodRecipes - Pretty slow, used to see more action, searching the archives & files has been helpful to me in the past.
BigCharitySaleandAngelFoodMinistries - Started by a host site in Texas, sees quite a bit of action, people post their menus for the day like we do here, has fair amount of 'off topic' chat, some religious messages (just a warning if that bothers you).
I created a new gmail account to just deal with recipe emails so I wouldn't have to be on digest and could keep the individual emails I found interesting (mainly recipes) since the volume can get fairly high around pickup times especially.
Answer:
Thanks summeranne... i will have to check those sites out.

I've never fried them - generally bake but have microwaved them as well (not the best but won't kill ya!)
