Ask:
Well we have tried civilian life for almost a year (with hubby doing his reserve stuff still of course) After much discussion we have decided to get back in. DH is just not happy not being military. Unfortunately, the af won't let him back in because of force shaping....so, we are going to do agr, which is actually better for us. His slot opens up in about 30 days, so he just has to deal with his stupid job for 30 more days. They have just been awful about him getting activated and stuff. (they informed him that he would be going back to iraq and they have just been giving him a hard time about chosing between the two, which legally they can't....but that is a whole different matter)
After looking at finances, we are goign to keep our house here in AL. and get a three bedroom apt. in atlanta area! The house that we own is right on the lake, so we figure it will be a good vacation home and we can still come here on his breaks.
Since the baby is due in two months, i think that the kids and i are going to stay here and he will go ahead to atl to start work (staying with a friend to save up a bit of money for our new apt). He will come home on his breaks, and they are goign to schedule my delivery, so he will come home for that! That way i can keep my same dr. and hospital and such.
Since he is in sales we are praying that he will have some really good sales this month to help us in the tranisition!!
I am excited and nervous all at once, but it feels right and we are glad to be going back!!
Answer:
Wow. That's quite a decision...switching civilian jobs wouldn't be enough? You are going to be one busy momma!
Good luck to you! I hope this will indeed make him, and you happy!
Answer:
Is he going to be at Dobbins? I know AmyC's dh works there and she lives near there. She isn't on here that much anymore since her second son was born, but she is a cutie pie that could probably give you some info on where to live, schools, etc. She pops in every now and then. Southernbellemommie's dh is military and they live somewhere around Atlanta too.
I am in Atlanta but I live smack in the middle of Buckhead so that is definitely not where you want to be renting an apt. if you plan to keep a house too. Way too expensive. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you about the area. I will try! We really love it here - we aren't military but my dh works for the CDC.
Answer:
My dad retired after 20 years in the Air Force. It took him over 4 years to "adjust" to the "outside" world! It was so tough on him. When you hear the saying, "Military is a way of life", you just don't understand unless you have lived it!
Answer:
Yep..........we will be at Dobbins! Any info on the area would be great. We tried calling family support, but haven't heard back from them yet!
Answer:
Well, congrats on the move. Dobbins is in Cobb County and I don't know much about the schools there, but I do know that the most desirable areas to live in are East Cobb, Marietta, and Kennessaw. There are some good schools and some bad ones, so you will definitely need to do your research. I know there are several websites like greatschools.net that you can read reviews on. Steer clear of West Cobb - the area is booming but the schools are the pits. Lots and lots of people move to Cobb Co. just for the schools, but don't assume they are all good just because you will hear people say that the system is a good one.
Answer:
Oh, and the traffic SUCKS here so make sure your dh can live as close as possible to work or at least make sure he will be driving against the traffic when he goes to work (the traffic into the perimeter is insane during rush hour but not so bad if you are going against it). Otherwise he will be spending a lot of time on I-75.
Answer:
Congrats on deciding what is good and will work for your family. I hope the transition back in goes smoothly. Good luck
Answer:
WOW I pray he gets adjusted quickly! I dont know what we would do in the civilian world!
Answer:
My dh has been retired for 8 years and had a hard time adjusting to civilan life. He had only worked as a civilian in high school. It is two totally different worlds.
Good luck. I have to say with all of the turmoil in the world I am glad he retired when he did.
