Ask:
Eldest DS is getting ready to turn 3 next month. Any ideas of what to get him for his birthday? People are going to start asking me what to get him pretty soon.
Anything that your 3 y/o really likes to play with and keeps them entertained?
Answer:
My DS loves Thomas. He has the die cast trains (which are cheaper than the wooden ones), books, clothes, etc. He also likes cars, puzzles, Melissa & Doug toys (wooden), books, sports stuff. Hope that helps!
Answer:
What we generally do is take our dd to the toy department and just let them look around and see what toys they are attracted to. Either mentally jot down which ones or actually write them down and use that as a guide. Obviously some are just out of the question, but it will give you ideas.
Answer:
My ds is really into Little People atm. He is also enjoying sports, Rescue Heros, art supplies, play doh, books, doctor's kit, pirate ships, dump trucks, fire trucks and a pretend cash register with play money.
If your ds isn't already into Little People, this might be a good time to get them. My ds loves them and they are mostly inexpensive.
You know your son better than anybody. Maybe check out some ads from Toys R Us, Target, K Mart, Walmart, whatever and see from there what you think ds would be into. Thats a big part of how we find new stuff for ours.
Good luck!

Answer:
We love Thomas here, too...and Rescue Heros!!! Both of my boys hit Rescue Heros at about 3 years...and they have held up through two of them...and youngest ds is 6, STILL playing with them DAILY.
Answer:
I am getting my nephew a little tikes sprinkler... the one that is a big huge beach ball. It is just 13.00 and the kids always love it.
Answer:
My 2 and 1/2 year old is all about trains and cars. Anything with either of those he loves. I would say clothes, and see what toys and whatever he enjoys.
Bring him to a toy department and let him pick stuff out. The downside of this though is the fit your more than likely to get when you leave empty handed.

My dd will be 4 next month. We are getting her a small bike. I have put in a request for to my mil that we get NO indoors toys. I am so tired of cleaning them all up.
So you could buy outdoor toys for the summer. Soccer ball and goal, t-ball set, little tykes b-ball hoop, small swimming pool & water toys.
So do you want more indoor toys or toys to take him outside for the summer?
Answer:
Ok, my dd is 3 but here are some things that she likes that your ds would probably also like: She got her bike along time ago & is very proficient with it. Little Tikes makes alot of sports things that he would probably like: Tball, golf, roller skates (they come w/pads) & basketball goal. We have all of these things & ds as well as her younger brother love them. Also, remember the big bouncy balls with the handle? Mil got dd one of these a few weeks ago & she loves it!!
As far as inside toys go: books, puzzles, lace cards, board games. Ds also loves her Fisher Price computer. She can identify about half of her letters and if she doesn't know the letter right away, then I give her the sound & she can tell me the letter! She also has the calculator & she found the clock from the same line in Kmart last week and really liked it. She went right back to it today and asked me again if we could get it! Got to love the learning toys!! The line is called Fun 2 Learn.
I'm sure there are many more things out there that I missed, but those are the things that get regular attention at my house. HTH
