Challenge: Find one New Thing about your child's Special Need

Ask:
Let's try a new challenge this week:

Find out one New Thing about your child's Special Need and share it with us. It could be a new trait, symptom or solution/coping skill. I've mentioned before brushing my son w/firm pressure centers him and makes him less fidgety, whereas massage won't. I will share my new one later.

Feel free to share something new in coping for you, too! How do you become a better mom? For me, it's patience and education about him.
Answer:

Does having a drink each nite count as coping?? I do try to take each day at one time and to remember that even if it is a bad day, DS is only going to have this day once. He is only 4 for a very short time and treasure each day as if it were our last.
Answer:

Hey, if it helps you cope and isn't bad, why not? I'm nursing so can't do alcohol, but I love my Starbucks, although realistically, it probably makes my stress worse!
Answer:

When my 4 yr old DD gets so full of energy and complete strangers tell me I have an energizer bunny on my hands I know DD is over tired. She has sleep apnea and SID so she litterly will be bouncing off walls and furniture. We do a heavy work activity and then take a "rest". She never sleeps but it gives the furniture and the dog a break. I know I will have to give her a smaller than regular dosage of Remeron to help her to fall asleep and make sure she stays covered with her weighted blanket. I wish I had known about the weighted blanket years ago. I've gotten at least 6 hrs of sleep a night for the last few months and I'm just now realizing how 3-4 hours of sleep really does affect a person.
Answer:

Since Luke had a stroke causing the right side of his body to be paralized after he was shaken, we use constraint therapy. Basically we put a cast on his "good" arm, so he HAS to use the one that has less mobility. It didn't work so well when he was younger, but is amazing now. I currently do one week on, one week off with him. It was so exciting the first time he picked up a fruit snack and put it in his mouth!

I do get some weird looks from the neighbors though, with so many casts. And strangers always ask questions and look confused when I say "no its not broken, we just cast that one, so he uses the other" I know its not nice, but it makes me giggle.
