Ask:
Little dd turned 2 in March. I have been dreading getting rid of the pacifier. She is so whiney. Older dd was easy. She dropped it in the toilet, so that was the end of it.
So Thursday night little dd got in trouble for playing with the soap pump. I was so mad. I put her in her crib for a while because she was in trouble. It was a little after 9pm. She cried for a while and ended up falling asleep. I went in to put her pj's on and put her back to bed. She asked for it once and went back to sleep. The next morning she was crying for it. Naps have been ok. I just keep telling her she is a big girl now and doesn't need it anymore. We are actually pretty tired of having to find it all the time. She would just throw it on the floor when she was done with it. I told dh yesterday that we need to look for all of them and throw them away before she finds them. There are 2 missing around the house somewhere.
We'll see in the next week if things keep going good. I liked the pacifier for car rides to my moms. It's an hour drive and she is so whiney in the car, even with a movie on.
I was dreading nothing. It really hasn't been as bad as I was thinking it was going to be.

That is what happened to us too. When DS was about 2 years 4 months, we forgot the only one we had at the moment at my mom's and he was fine. That next summer when we moved - we found at least a dozen stuffed all over the house in weird places!
Good luck - I hope it continues well!

Our daughter finally lost her's somewhere in the house. And she was doing great. And then about a month later my husband ran across it and his solution? Hand it to me. As my daughter was right there I ended up putting it in a drawer which she of course found about another month later. My husband's response! "Why did you put it there!" My response to my husband! "Why did you hand it to me!"
Anyway, long story short, lots of tears and I finally just bribed her with My Little Ponies. Not my normal parenting trick of choice but sometimes you just got to do it! It's been about six months now, we moved and came across another pacifier, to my horror, and my daughter said she would save it for her little brother who's being born in June. It's in her room and she's not using it, though I'm sure she tried it out at least once. I figure she's probably outgrown it.
Answer:
I love my sisters idea that worked with both of her kids. Did you know about the pai fairy? She comes and takes your paci from you at night while your sleeping and your a big enough kid. She'll leave you some money or a special toy to replace it. She takes them to give them to the little babies who do not have pacis.

This one worked for us...but ours was a little different. We told our 2 year old that the Binky Angel needed her binkies to give to all the little babies in heaven. So we put them in a ziplock baggie and tied them to a bunch of helium balloons and waved bye bye to them. When we went inside my hubby had left a "present" from the Binky Angel....a new barbie!
With our older daughter, when she was little, our pediatrician told us to cut the very tip off of the binky and when she found it or we gave it to her to pretend like nothing was wrong. Well, needless to say, she DID NOT like it at all. We just said "uh oh!" it broke! We did this with most of them over several days. I would let her sleep with one that was not broken, just not walk around all day with one in her mouth (those magically were broken) Then one night, the night binky was broken too. She cried for awhile....but eventually got over it.
Another idea a friend had was to take that one special last binky to a Build A Bear Store and have your child put it inside her new stuffed friend.
Answer:
We kind of did a combination. I told our almost 3 year-old that we were not buying any more binkies after the ones she had bitten (she had about 4 of them in her bed). I would cut them after they ripped. Then, I told her that the Binky Fairy would bring her a special toy when she was ready to give them up. She wanted a special bank with her name on it similar to the her brother had received as a gift.
One day, she just handed the binkies to my husband when she went in for a nap. Just like that. She said she didn't need them anymore!!!
The funniest thing was that when I called the store to order the bank, I told them that I was ordering it for my daughter who had just given up her binky. The store had it delivered by UPS, and it came with a note that said, "You're a big girl now! Love, the Binky Fairy."
Answer:
We have three kids, and two of them loved their binkies. The best thing we did was limit the binky use to their beds. When they were done with their naps and when they got up in the morning, they had to leave the binkies in their beds. That way, they were just for naps and nighttime use only.

This worked great with both of my older two kids. The "paci fairy" replaced their pacis with something special for big kids only. They never asked for one again.
We did make sure to throw them all away that same night!!

We are done with the pacifier! It has been almost 2 weeks now. She asked for it the first 5 days or so, but she doesn't anymore. It's nice that we don't have to go hunting for them anymore at bedtime. The pain is now when she wakes up she starts yelling "MOM" over and over until I go get her.
