Need your help - perimenopause?

Ask:
O.K. I probably spelled it wrong, but I hope you all know what I am talking about. My best friend started having problems a few months back, and last month was the worst. She started having hot flashes, anxiety, cries at the drop of a hat, and (this is the worst) snaps at her kids and can't stand to be around them. She has had bad nightmares about her and her kids and doesn't sleep. All this happens around day 14 or 15 AFTER her cycle.........when she ovulates. She has gone to her Dr. about this and they threw her on Zoloft. That made EVERYTHING worse, so she had to quit taking it. All this lasted about a week. Well, today is day 14 agian, and it's all starting. I am so worried about her. The OBGYN wants her to now take PROZAC (NOT!). Our chiropractor is on vacation for 2 weeks so she can't get in to get the saliva hormone test (way more accurate than blood) so that she can help her. I know not everyone believes in chiropractic care, but I swear by mine and she has another degree also, but not sure what it is. Acupuncture is another of her many talents......anways, back on track. Here's my question: Have any of you ladies found anything over the counter that helps you with peri-menopause? I want to find something that she can use to get her (and me) through the next week until she can get into the chirporactor and get the saliva test and prevent this from happening next month.

THanks for any advice!

I am in full-blown menopause - but when I first started perimenopause - I bought the menopausal OTC medicine at WalMart. I found that taking that and a good vitamin once a day really helped me to some degree. I also found that by drinking a few sips of wine - and I am not a drinker mind you - in the evening - really made me more relaxed and people friendly. I really hate to say this - but I don't think there's anything out there that will work wonders. Hope you two feel better.

I also suffer from perimenopause. I do get the hot-flashes, anxiety & moodiness sometimes, but I have never experienced anything so severe as you explained. My Endocrinologist recommened Midol, belive it or not. I know it seems a little weird, but it did help! Also, if she hasn't already seen an Endocrinologist, I would definately highly recommend that she do so. While an OB-GYN can help with the perimenopause, an Endocrinologist specializes in that field. Good Luck!!

Thank you so much! I will definatley tell her about this and I may have to help her drink some wine every night! Hey, we gotta do what we gotta do, right!?!?!
Answer:

YES! My nurse practitioner recommended Remifemin (Walmart used to have a generic equivalent) that is herbal but safe and effective. So side effects. I am in menopause (at 43! Go figure) and this Really helped. However it took a full three weeks to start feeling real results. She has to be really good about taking it every day. I hung in there and by 12 weeks felt 100% better.

I know there are a lot of herbal things you can take to help out, like Black Cohosh and others. There is a book called Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing that I use for everything. It has natural things to take. I would highly suggest buying that book.
