What do your kids have for after school snacks?

Ask:
OK, granted school is or about to be out, but I wonder how you all handle this. I prefer for my kids to eat healthy, but do not deny them the "good stuff' (Doritos) either, but try to balance the good & bad. My 9 YO just had the folllowing after walking in from school: about 10 (bite size) cookies, a posicle (sugar free), a banana (my insistance), and two snack size bags of pocorn. He had a good lunch and is growing like crazy, so I guess this is all fine, but I wonder if I am better making a sandwich or something like that (I asked, he said no)? What do your kids have and how much of it?
Answer:

My kids arent in school yet. But we do afternoon snacks, between 2:30 and 3:30. We try and do different things every day. Here is my list

fruit
veggies and ranch
rolled up lunch meat and cheese
popcorn
sandwich-if they didnt have one for lunch
granola bars
tortillas-wrap up lunchmeat or melted cheese
chips and salsa
cereal
cookies and milk
graham crackers

I let them have other things too, myabe things that arent so healthy, like fruit snacks or cheetos. If I let them have a snack that to me isnt really healthy, I make them have a glass of milk with it. Plus my kids know that they HAVE to eat some fruit each day. So they usually will eat it in the afternoon so for their bedtime snack, they can have something yummy.
Go to betty crocker and kraft, you can find some easy ideas for snacks like wraps and really good snack mixes.
Dont know if these helps you any. Good luck.

We're not a big chip eating family, I just don't think we really like them...we think we do and I'll buy a bag and then practically the whole thing goes stale because nobody is interested.
Answer:

It really varies with my kids...they range in ages from 5 to 15...and the 3 oldest are boys...

the older kids will eat a meal...

leftovers from the night before
sandwich
salad with chicken in it
a bowl of soup
cheese and crackers

the little ones will munch on...

fruit
cheese sticks
ice pops
cheese and crackers
milk and cookies
trail mix
pretzels
fruit snacks

They will eat chips too if they are in the house, but I don't buy them very often (usually when I know we will have company) and then the chips are just leftovers
Answer:

My boys are in growth spurts, too. Parker always has a huge appetite and Carson's is a bit smaller at each sitting, but he wants to eat several times a day.

I will give them:

yogart
fruit (apples, grapes, bananas)
peanut butter crackers
shredded cheese
cheese its
fruit bar
scoop of peanut butter
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

I have all their snack stuff in handy reach for them, too. They ask me if they may get a snack and then they get one of the above mentioned items.
Answer:

string cheese, popcorn, fruit snacks, cereal bars, occaisionally a rice krispy treat or mozzarella sticks
Answer:

I give them a peanut butter and jam sandwich on whole wheat bread .. they aren't allowed peanut butter at school so they enjoy it after school instead. Sometimes they will have whole wheat crackers with peanut butter and jam ... and on really hot days a homemade popsicle (made with 100% pure juice) or frozen yogurt on a cone.

I am better at giving healthy after school snacks then I am school lunches. (We don't have cafeterias in our schools here). That is where I tend to go for things that aren't quite as healthy (chicken nuggets, easy mac, hot dogs, canned pasta) because when I've tried to send something healthy, they don't eat it and come home hungry and cranky.
