Ask:
Rather than forward out the story that I had sent to me, I thought I would simply post this, where the story WAS confirmed! I am shocked..and had never thought of this.
Answer:
I just got this e-mail this AM and double checked it too...makes sense when you think about it!
Answer:
Thank God I am not one for using hand sanitizers! I am into the soap and water thing (mainly because I have always believed that it is a bad thing to kill too much bacteria- it is just one of my many quirks!). I could honestly see my youngest doing the same thing with hand sanitizer- especially when for Easter she received frangranced bubbles and tasted that (she quickly learned that you do not eat bubbles!).
Answer:
We don't use hand sanitizer...but it isn't all that shocking to me that it's harmful if ingested. *shrug*
Answer:
I did receive this email from a few people. We sometimes use hand sanitizer but I never would have thought of my kids licking it off or trying it from the bottle. I guess I'll have my ds go put a Mr Yuk sticker on the bottle I have in my purse.
Answer:
Thanks for the warning. I also got rid of all Purrel since it was getting our skin so dry. I never thought of the danger it could be for kids. We will certainly continue using water & soap.
Answer:
Wow. I hope this gets publicized more so people are aware of the dangers.
Answer:
Not surprising. We use it when we go to restaurants, but it is kept in my purse...not somewhere that the kids can get it for themselves.
Answer:
We do not use it much, but I do ocasionally. I will have to watch the kids when we go to the mall. They have that sanitizer pumping machine now.
Answer:
Our family has been using hand sanitizer for years and we've never had a problem. I use the normal-scented stuff and my dd has never ingested it. Because of hand sanitizer, my family has stayed a lot healthier. All the teachers at dd's school keep hand sanitizer around for the kids because the bathrooms don't have soap.
I can see where some younger kids might want to try and eat the fruitier-smelling sanitizers. It's something to be aware of, but it's not going to cause me to stop using it to clean my dd's hands when we're out and about.
