Which direction should fan blades turn?

Ask:
I am trying to wait till it gets unbearably hot before turning on the AC. I have the house all closed up to keep the heat of the sun out and we have a ceiling fan both downstairs and upstairs. It gets pretty hot upstairs and hard to sleep, I noticed there is a switch to change the direction of the fan. Which way should it turn? Does it matter?
Answer:

The switch should be down for air coming down. Believe me once you switch it you'll notice the difference. Dh just changed it on ours.

Answer:

I just asked dh. Switch up for summer. Switch down for winter.

(I'm just as clueless as you are)
Answer:

Hot air rises, cold air falls so..... adjust the spin according to what kind of air you want to move.

I have always had the spin blowing air down DH is always telling me it needs to be reversed if I am hot but I like the breeze
Answer:

Counterclockwise when it's hot, to blow cool air on you. Clockwise when it's warm, to keep the warm air (as it rises), back down to the floor.
