Ask:
Ok, with summer approaching, there will be many barbeques, and I like to enjoy a beer. Unfortunately it bloats me up like nothing else, so I'd like to step out of my safety net and try something new!
Here are things I absolutely dislike:
Whiskey (of any kind)
Vodka (of any kind)
I like the taste of bloody mary's but just can't stomach the vodka. I like sangria's from Olive Garden but can't seem to find a great recipe. What are some of your favorite summertime alcoholic drinks?
Answer:
MARGARITAS!!!!! I dont really have a recipe for it, I just go off the directions on the margaritia bottle of mix. But I do use Patron tequila. I think it is wonderful. Anything else like Jose Quervo always gave me a horrible stomach ache.
I also like beer, so we usually go with that. I am with you on whiskeys. I cant drink anything that smells like pine sol. How about Kahlua liquiour. Like kahlua and half and half-I know it has a name to the drink. but I cant think of it. Bull dog?? I saw on the tv the other day that they have some flavored kahlua liquor. I dont remember all of them but one was kahlua and caramel. I think you can do mudslides with those too. I am not a big drinker so i dont know all the fancy new mixed drinks. Good luck finding a new drink.
Answer:
Strawberry Daquiri's or my personal fave Midori Sour. For the daquiri you can use any type of rum (I don't care for the spiced rum in it though) and the Midori sours is basically Midori with sours- it is a melon flavor (comes in a really cool bottle and green). Both are fruity and I love them both!
Answer:
I really like gin & tonic. It isn't too sweet, and is refreshing on a hot day.
Answer:
Margaritas, mmmmm.....MAlibu and pineapple. Malibu now has a banana flavored rum, great with lemon lime and oj.
I make sangria, and do also enjoy it with white wine (nothing dry). Mix wine, superfine sugar, fruit (lemon, lime, strawberries, oranges, even chopped apples), a bit of lemon juice, and add a shot of brandy. DH added Crown Royal one night, 2 glasses later I was awfully giggly. And I am a bartender.....
A Mexican place by us has a frozen sangria margarita. A regular margarita with a frozen sangria, and it was swirled in a tall glass. I am going to try this at home...it was yummy
Answer:
I agree, margaritas are wonderful! I also really like mojitos in the summer. The mint is really refreshing. Just watch out, because they go down way to easy!!
Answer:
All of the frozen drinks are great- margaritas, daiquiris, pina coladas.... Like Stevesgal said Midori sours and there are also amaretto sours(those are good too) and Malibu goes great with anything(I drink mine with diet coke ) If you don't like to have to mix up drinks, have you ever just tried the wine coolers or maybe one of the Smirnoff Ice type of drinks. Woodchuck apple cider is great and I usually don't like things like that. There's all of the lemonade type drinks like Mike's Hard Lemonade and things like that. Kahlua makes a couple of their drinks in ready to drink bottles now. I'm not a big wine drinker but you could try that- or even the sparkling wines which I do like(I don't think they really taste like wine but more of a wine cooler) There are so many options. Don't limit yourself, girl...TRY EVERYTHING!
Answer:
White Russian= Kahlua and milk
Strawberry daiguires (spelling) or margaritias

Gin & Tonic is my favorite drink! I agree - totally refreshing on a hot day. I just end up drinking it too easily! I also really like cranberry juice & vodka, but since you aren't a vodka girl... you could try cranberry juice, gin, and grapefruit juice. I normally use vodka in that mix but I think gin would work just as well.
While preggo last summer I obviously had to give up the gin in my G&T and started just ordering the tonic water with ice & lemon. Guess what - I didn't even taste the difference!!!
since pregnancy & ds arriving, I haven't been able to handle alcohol very well, so I might just stick with that tonic water thing this year. easier than a hangover!

Have you tried a mojito with basil instead of mint? They're really tasty.
