Energy saving tips for your stove

Ask:
Opening the oven door and lifting pot lids lets heat escape. Cracking the oven door just once lets 20% of the heat escape!! Use the window and oven timers instead.

To take full advantage of the heat in an oven, try to select foods that bake at around the same temp. If one thing calls for 325, another 350 and yet another 375, set the oven for 350 and adjust cooking times accordingly.

Keep reflector pans under the burners clean. They save you money by reflecting heat where it is needed.

Never place aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven. It can block vents and impair heat circulation, reducing oven temps by up to 50 degrees.

Another good tip...when making hard boiled eggs just bring the eggs to a boil then turn the stove off, cover and leave for 20 minutes. You'll have perfect eggs everytime and won't have the burner on a full 15 minutes. This trick can work with pasta too but you have to adjust the time according to pasta type and desired doneness. No more boil overs!

You know, every time you take the lid off of a pot or open the oven door, it actually makes whatever you are cooking, cook longer. So then you end up using even more gas or electricity to cook for a longer period of time.
