Ask:
Do you find that when you freeze bread that it defrosts and is dry or does it mold faster than it would if you had not froze. I am wanting to have bread and hot dog/hambuger buns on hand for lunches and dinner. Espeically when the bread we like is on sale. I have done it before with the Sara Lee Bread, but it was the blueberry or brown sugar kind and I only toast those when we eat them. I need to know if regular white/wheat bread will defrost ok. Thank you.
Answer:
I've never had a problem. I know a lot of people wrap their loaves before they freeze them but I just stick them in the freezer. When I want the loaf, I just take it out and it thaws very quickly. I can't tell the difference!
Answer:
We never freeze bread, because my dh will only eat it if it is soft. I think freezing it makes it much harder. I just run to the store frequently for buns and bread.
Answer:
I freeze mine all of the time, and all different kinds. I have never had a problem with taste, texture, or anything.
I will add though, that I do "defrost" it in the fridge. I do not just put it out on the counter.
When I see that the one in the fridge only has a few slices left I take the next loaf out of the freezer.
And for the hot dog and hamburger buns...most of my gang likes theirs toasted...so that just gets defrosted in the toaster oven right out of the freezer.
Good luck!!
Answer:
I freeze the bread all the time- I do notice a difference in the "buns" not sure why though for those I just buy and do not freeze. It seems like the buns are always hard whenever I defrost them
Answer:
I think it can depend on your freezer, too. The freezer in my refrigerator doesn't do bread very well. It really dries it out. We have a tiny chest freezer and it does keep bread well for 2 or 3 weeks. All that said, have you considered making your own bread? My homemade buns always freeze well no matter what freezer I put them in. I do have a breadmaker that I purchased with my mom's estate money 9 years ago. It has been wonderful and definately worth the investment. We save money and it tastes so much better than the store bought buns and bread.
Answer:
I have never had much luck baking bread. I think that a bread machine would make all the difference. I have not looked at them lately, so I do not know what they cost. I do know that my parents have one that they dont use any more. I might have to give them a call and see if they want to get rid of it.
Thank you all for your tips.
