Ask:
I was supposed to attend a baby shower yesterday but I didn't go due to a melt down I had (if your interested see the divorced parents thread for "end an era") Anyway the shower is for my SIL who is pregnant with her second baby - second girl. I was completely broke and unwilling to charge a gift. If it were a first pregnancy or she was having the first girl or a boy I would have but I have been to her house - she needs absolutely nothing.
So any creative ideas for a second girl baby shower?
Answer:
When i was in that situation I made a coupon book. Babysitting coupons and stuff like that. You could also do a few scrapbook pages for her to get her started on the babys book. Maybe putting together a basket for her to enjoy after baby is born, bath stuff or maybe a gift cert for a manicure.

I have made meals that could be frozen for when the baby comes with instructions taped on top for her to have an easy meal.
Answer:
basket of mommy stuff is a great idea
so is making her a meal - she hates to cook and just refuses to do it
I wish I was creative enough and had the time to scrap book. I work 9 hrs a day and have an hour commute both ways so it leaves me little time for crafts.
Thanks for the ideas

How about a nice piggy bank? All 4 of mykids got different styles etc.. Something that they will use for a long time.

I'm not a fan of second baby showers either. My SIL had one, I just got a bowl, but in a bib for the baby (I love my Big Brother), a cool placemat for him, paperplates, napkins, disposable cups & silverware and a pizza hut gift card.
Do they have a name picked out? Are you crafty? Maybe you can make some sort of wall hanging or a couple of scrapbook pages.
Sorry to hear about your meltdown!
Answer:
Get her something she will need later on. Or a waste free gift like a gift card to the zoo, childrens museum, or childrens theater something she can do with the kids, or go for something to pamper her or that they will need when the child is much older
you can't go wrong with diapers

I'm making this for a friend's baby's first birthday: Custom picture frame.
I bought a $3.00 mulitpicture frame at the dollar store. I am taping stripped colored paper to a piece of cardstock (I used an old file folder actually). Then I'm going to put a poem in one of the picture spots. Then I'm going to glue some buttons or put stickers--something apporpriate--in another one along w/ the kid's name. I happen to have a picture of this child, so I'm going to put that in the other spot. And leave one blank for the mom to use.
Someone got me a little keep sake tin. They bought a cheap tin, put paper around it and then stenciled/wrote Baby's Keepsakes on it. Super simple and cheap. If the tin has a handle like this one did, you can tie scraps of ribbon around. Tie a bunch of short strips around the handle and knot it so that the ends stick up.
You could also go to the consignment shop and see if they have anything new w/ the tags still on or walmart's clearance section sometimes has good stuff.
Good luck!!

I like the idea of bringing over some freezer meals for them! That was one of my favorite gifts. Made life just that much easier.
