Stain Treating With Peroxide

Ask:
Is there a difference between peroxide and hydrogen peroxide? Also, DH says that this bleaches material. What do you all that use it have to say?

TIA

Answer:

The peroxide you buy at the pharmacy in the brown bottles is hydrogen peroxide, I think it's just more commonly called peroxide. It can bleach some fabrics, so I'd recommend testing it first on a small spot before you use it.
Answer:

It does bleach fabric...I don't use it myself but my Mom does. She has a 'thing' against regular bleach. I just go for the big guns myself!

I don't know of a difference between 'peroxide' and 'hydrogen peroxide'...I would hazard to say they're the same thing if you're talking about the stuff you can buy next to teh rubbing alcohol in the drugstore. There might be different grades/concentrations of peroxides, not sure how available they are to the general public. Interesting question!

Thank you both so much! This information was very much appreciated and I'm glad I didn't just start gobbing it onto our clothes! Lol.

Answer:

Peroxide is used in color safe bleach. Not sure of the concentration though.

Answer:

Most color safe bleach is oxygen based instead of chlorine like regular bleach. It may have peroxide in it, too, but I doubt it's much because I know it will definitely bleach out some fabrics.
