Imitation- The Sincerest Form Of Flattery

Ask:
But sometimes it's not a good behavior they are imitating. What have you caught your children doing that they learned from you? Ever had a Cat's In The Cradle moment?

For me, there are 2:

1- When I took DS to the dentist and was informed that he had an overbite. The dentist pointed out that this was probably worsened because of how he kept biting his lip. Sure enough, once it was pointed out to me, I started noticing it...whenever he's nervous. Doh!

2- When DS learned how to wash his own hands in the sink and rubbed hand soap all over the bathroom counter and rubbed it all with a washcloth. When he was caught, he refused to stop because "it wasn't clean yet". Ouch.

What are yours?
Answer:

More than once, I have heard my DS say "that crying is driving me crazy!" when the baby is crying! And my DD said the other day to her little sister "shhh! I'm talking on the phone!" she had her little play cell phone.

When they yell at each other, it makes me cringe because I know in my heart that they learned yelling from me! I know that an occasional "be quiet!" or "stop fighting!" is not child abuse, but I wish I wouldn't yell ever.
Answer:

exasperated eye rolls
I'm so guilty
Answer:

Not really a disruptive behavior, but I have often caught Riley on her little potty with a tampon in her hand that she got from under the bathroom sink. I will ask her to give it back to me and she will insist "No! I need it" and proceed to drop it between her legs into the potty. I lose more tampons this way.

Answer:

When I ask dd if she wants more dinner or breakfast, she will say "no, I'm good". Dh and I say that to each other all the time.

Both girls will yell at the neighbors dog when it is barking, "Silly dog" or "be quiet".

When little dd was a couple weeks old I was still packing around some little pads in the diaper bag. Older dd was 21 months old. I was upstair putting the baby down and came down stairs and she had pulled all the pads out of the diaper bag. Some of them were open and stuck to the coffee table. When I came into the room she grabbed a pad and stuck it right to her crotch. I was so surprised that she knew exactly where it went.
Answer:

My 3 year old neice does a lot of things I do. Its really scary and made me realize how much they pick up on.

She was always so impatient and so I would tell her to hold her horses if I was busy so one day I told her to hurry up and she yelled "hold your tigers"

She will also look at one with this serious face and say "do I look like I'm kidding"

She also picked up no ma'am from me because that's what I would tell her when she was doing something she wasn't supposed to. Now she says it to everyone.

Answer:

Yes, but the thing that bothers me the most is my son saying fabulous. I say it all the time and it is funny coming from his mouth...
