I feel torn between letting them do whatever they feel like (after morning chores) in the summer or putting restrictions on the TV. I finally said this weekend that TV only after dinner or only if it's raining. But I'm not sure if this is the right choice ... anyone else have rules for the TV during the summer?

No, set rules. If I feel they have watched it too long or played video games too long, I make them go do something else.

No...don't have to. My kids aren't very interested in TV - watching one show is about when they max out and want to do something else.

We don't have set rules, but if it's nice outside I try to get them outside or take them to the pool or park, and reserve tv time for the evening or movies.

My daughter is younger than this age group but I thought I would respond!
When we moved into our new house we put our TV in the basement and none of us hardly ever watch it now! Before our move my daughter was bugging me about the TV all the time and even I was sucked into it now and then and we didn't even have channels then!
Now I'm thinking we need to move the computer / internet down into the basement as well!

NO set rules. But I do "kick" them outside if they have been lounging too long. Mine are older though...so playing outside is not their first option. My ds is good about going up to the basketball courts....and my dd has friends in the neighborhood so they are usually doing something. Being in Florida I don't make them stay outside too long though either...TOO HOT!! Must stay hydrated!!

We will go day by day!! If they are too tired out and all maybe a lttle more than normal! but They go days with out watching tv so I dont make a big deal if a day or 2 now and then they watch more than Id like!! In the summer most of the time they are outside playing in the pool!!
