who has started their own business?

Ask:
Has anyone started their own business from scratch? Not direct selling or stuff like that, but come up with your own idea and made it happen? What did you do? How do you stay motivated? Do you think it's okay to put the business ahead of things for awhile until it gets off the ground? I've been researching for over a year now and I'm ready to launch my idea but I am absolutely terrified. Any advice would be very helpful!

My dh wanted me to open up a hair salon. I was so nervous about the hours and all that went into it.. It was going to be a kids hair salon w/parties and all that good stuff.. i don't think my dh realized how much time it would be. We still go back and forth on it.
So I did start with a ds company.and Love it!

I think when you start a business you have to put it first until it does get off the ground..
I wish you the best of Luck!! Go For it!!

We have a place like that near Atlanta. I've seen the ad but it's too far for me to visit. It's a great idea.

My DH and I started our own food company (he's a chef). He makes the best bruschetta ever, and we sell that. We sell homemade Italian pizza breads to go with it as well. We also sell my husband’s yummy granola and breakfast bars, my brownies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, chip dip mixes, handmade chocolate truffles, chocolate suckers, etc. We do all this through outdoor public markets on the weekends. We also do a sandwich of the day and other ideas (whatever we come up with that week).

my husband and i started our own photography business here in billings. at first we specialized in motorsports photography. there is a flat track, a circle track and hill climbs here. we started this about 3 years ago, it does really awesome in the summer time, bring in the big $$$, but in the winter, there is no racing, so we started trying to branch out last year. we did a couple of weddings, a few senior portrait sessions, and it's going ok, but still could use the extra cash. it's very hard starting off, we put every $ we had into this, and we still do. there are some days that photography, cameras, computers, etc. is all that we talk about. drives me a little nuts, but it's his dream and i would never tell him no. so i sit back and let it drain him and make him nuts, but it's still what he wants to do. i'm the owner (for ex wife reasons) but all i really do is the paperwork end of it. he does all the hard work. we both believe this will be our retirement fund in the long run. my advice is to do your homework, ask lots of questions, and then ask some more! if you believe in it, it is always worth it! Good luck!!!

I am in the process of getting my business plan in place to start my a business. It is an indoor play gym for kids.
I had my daughters birthday party at one and I couldn't believe how much it cost. They had 4 other parties and then at noon time it was open to the public and the place was full up. We live in a large town so I was thinking of putting one on the other side of town.

I hope all goes well.

I opened up a small retail gift shop several years ago but I closed it after 4 years due to the fact we needed benefits - we were paying so much for health insurance because my DH works for family. I would be glad to answer any questions that you might have. There was lots more to having your own business than I ever dreamed of.
Answer:

wow, that's a lot of different businesses! I'm starting a local magazine for moms. It's going to be free to parents with kids under the age of 18yrs. I'm getting advertisers to foot the bill for the printing and other essentials.
At first I was just looking for an outlet for my writing and a way to let other moms know what's going on in our area. I just wanted to cover expenses and maybe make a little spending money, but after reading The Millionaire Mind I have decided that I would like to make enough so that my hubby can choose what job he wants and not have to worry about money.
