Spiders in Bathroom

Ask:
I have a horrible problem with spiders in my upstairs bathroom. I'll get rid of one and the next day there's two more. I have no clue where they are coming from but I'd like them gone.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions at all?
Is there any tips to preventing spiders?
Answer:

Not that I know of thow cleaning the eaves of your house wher spiders typically have there nests may help,
Answer:

As far as prevention you could spray around the house with a bug killer and the eaves like ember15 suggested.

For inside you could put out those little glue traps, maybe behind the toilet that way it kills any that do make it in. I HATE spiders, good luck.

Spiders, like all critters, are attracted to two things: water and food. Many times they are also looking for a nice comfortable place to live. So, if it is hot outside, they are looking inside your house where it is cooler. Or if it is cold outside, they are looking inside your house where it is warmer. However, I'd concentrate on the water and food motivators since you have a concentration of spiders in one area and there is nothing you can do about the weather.

Focus first on water. Since this is a bathroom you may have a water leak somewhere. It doesn't have to be a pipe leaking. The water can be coming from condensation (a hot water pipe that is sweating when it hits the cold air-conditioned air or water accumulating in the attic near the attic fan) or water from kids splashing around in the bathtub, etc. Water usually is the cause. The excess water will attract other critters (termites, carpenter ants, mosquitos and the like) which spiders like to feed on. So, in short the excess water attracts the food which attracts the spiders.

My recommendations:
- Search for water leaks and eliminate them.
- Search for bug infestations that might be attracting the spiders and treat those areas.
- Since the problem is on a second story, look around your roof line for any tree branches that might be touching. Cut those back. While up there, clean out the gutters, if needed.
- Place a few sticky traps around the bathroom, in cabinets and behind the commode. Spiders will stick and eliminate themselves. You may also pick up any other critters that might be contributing to your problem.
- Declutter to get rid of any spider hiding places. The love dark, undisturbed places so you may need to store extra towels and the case-lot of TP in another area.

Spiders are beneficial critters so I don't recommend eliminating them but I do understand how you don't want to live with them everyday.
Answer:

I would put some bug killer around the foundation of your home. That tends to help keep all the little critters away. Just be sure to keep the kids and pets away from it for a few days.

Okay. I swear that this is the truth. I just clicked on your thread, started reading the first line and felt a movement across the top of my foot. I looked down and saw an rather good sized and extremely ugly spider cruising behind my heal!!! Now I have the heebie jeebies. My feet are crossed at the ankles and hovering over the floor.

That said, I think they come up the drains because I find them in my sink a lot, too. YIKES!

Thank you all for the helpful posts!
I'll try a few of the things that were suggested and hopefully get rid of the spiders!
