Ask:
I just found ! It is the green version of Google. It uses a black background and this saves energy compared to their standard format.
Of course, it probably won't save you anything, but by using this site you consume less energy than using Google!
Just thought it was neat and wanted to share!
Answer:
It's a neat idea, but it hurts my eyes. I wouldn't be able to use it on a regular basis. I'm wondering how does having a black background save energy?
Answer:
It is different to look at.
It only saves energy if you use a CRT monitor (versus a LCD monitor). CRT monitors are usually cheaper and bigger than an LCD monitor and unlike LCD, the amount of energy a CRT monitor uses depends on the colors it displays. CRT monitors use 74 watts to display all white compared to 59 watts for an all black.
Answer:
I love it. I think it reduces glare and might actually make it easier on my eyes when I stare at the screen for a long time.
