What to do? It's getting hot !?!

Ask:
Our air conditioning unit went out Monday. It needed freon and we kept putting it off because we were trying to find someone to do it inexpensive. The last three guys we had went out of business. One person we called said they charged $200 just to look at it and that's not including the freon. Anyways I let it run and then would let it melt. Apparently the water from that short circuited the relay box. Now the ventilation won't even work. We've had problems with this system from the get go. Always having to get repair men for one reason or another. The system is around ten years old now. We live in a 14 by 60 mobile home. It gets pretty hot. My sis said it would probably be better to buy an ac to put in the window. My question would it be and if so how big of an ac to get for our size home? Should I get two smaller units and put them at each end of the house?
Answer:

What does Sears cost to come and take a look? $200 just to look at it sounds to pricey to me.

Come on over to Utah today. It's nice and cool and has been raining since about 3-4 am. It's a nice change to the hot, dry weather we have been having.

Honestly, I think you'd be better off with a couple of window units. Those suckers put out a lot of cold air, and I think they're more energy efficient than one big unit. But I'm no A/C expert. The window units list the amount of square feet each unit will cool on the box.

My parents have a pretty big house and my dad discovered that it was cheaper for them to buy a few window units instead of running the two main A/C units.

Good luck!
Answer:

We have a 4 bedroom house and it is cooled by window airs. Right now, we don't even have any in. We have ceiling fans in every room and it really helps. We have a large (don't know exact size) air for the dinning room. It will cool the entire downstairs. (living room, kitchen, dininning room and 2 bedrooms) I am not sure if we are just going to go with one small air up stairs or one in each bedroom. You can buy 2 medium window air conditioners for less than $400 and they should do the job for you!
