Bleaching?

Ask:
I want to bleach some heavy purple curtains white. How would i go about doing this?
Answer:

Oh gosh...I have no idea, I'm not sure that will even work! What type of fabric are they?
Answer:

You will ruin them in the process. When you bleach cloth it actually eats away at the fabric. If you bleach the curtains long enough to get them white you will end up with a pile of gauze that you can tear with your fingers. Depending on the type of fabric (ex. nylon blends) you will not be able to remove color but the bleach actually "melts" the fibers. Not good.
Answer:

I agree you won't get white without ruining the fabric.

Not sure what you are needing them bleached for? Do you only need white? You can use bleach to give them a new pattern or "tye-dye" effect, but purple is too dark of a color to bleach out to white. Or, you could add an accent fabric (sheer or other) that is white to acheive the look?
