Ask:
I thought I should explain how it happened for those of you with trampolines.
I was so irritated at the time with everyone telling me how to parent that I didn't explain. Anyway, we live on a very sloped yard and the trampoline sits in one of the few level spots. My husband moved the trampoline to mow under it and moved it over in a very uneven position. Well while he was mowing the kids decided to get on it and play. So I suppose with it being so uneven and them jumping my son jumped and fell down into my dd's head and knocked his two front teeth loose. I was in the house and didn't know about it until he came in crying. We still allow them to jump on the trampoline together, I know we are just horrible parents. Flame away.
Answer:
The trampoline debate has happened a few times here. I'm not going to flame you, but I have a different perspective on them-I've taken care of kids who have been injured on them(broken bones, concussions, etc). Most injuries occur when there isn't a net enclosure around the trampoline. That being said I let dd jump on her friend's but they have an enclosure and limit it to 2-3 kids at a time depending on their size. She also jumps on one at gymnastics, but that is one at a time with the instructor right there. If they do flips on the tramp they are in a harness.
They are fun for kids, but it is the toy that injures the most kids each year. If you can afford an enclosure I would recommend it. Have fun this summer and I hope your kids are injury-free the rest of the summer.
On a side not make sure you don't have anything around the trampoline in your yard that they can hit if they fall off. We know a woman who fell on the trampoline when she was 7, hit the picnic table just right and suffered a spinal cord injury.
Answer:
last year right before Halloween, ds was standing on the trampoline flying his kite, and stepped back to far and WHAM!!! broke his arm! i promptly got rid of it after. other than that, we had a rule, 1 kid at a time on it! none of his friends could play on it. it happens. are his teeth going to be okay? did they completely come out? trampolines aren't all bad, just have to make sure kids follow the rules you have set out for them. no flaming here, you are being a great mom letting the kids do something they enjoy. we can't put our children under glass and protect them their whole lives. we do our best to make sure they are careful, other than that, it's in god's hands. i say let them play!

.
We do have an enclosure. Thanks. An injury-free summer would be wonderful.
Answer:
I can't imagine how many injuries we would have had if we didn't have the enclosure! DH thought it was a waste of money, now he's glad we bought it!
Answer:
I broke my tail bone on one when I was 18. I was told I was lucky I didn't seriously injure my back by my DR. Trampolines are fun, but they are dangerous. I wouldn't let a child under 8 on one if it was me. That said, I'm a firm believer in that kids get hurt and they shouldn't be raised in padded rooms, they need the chance to be kids with all the bumps a bruises that come along with growing up. No flaming here, accidents happen.

I certainally did not mean to make you feel bad or question your parenting skills. I know that you are a wonderful parent. Personally, we will never have a trampoline, because I don't think I can keep a close enough eye to make sure my kids follow my rules, which would be extremely strict. Those things still scare the crap out of me!

Of course this is just my opinion, but I think they are best for smaller children. My children who are 4 and 6 just jump. I have seen older kids doing flips and crazy stunts and that scares the teetotal crap out of me! I'm sorry about your accident, I'm sure that was scary.
Answer:
The hubster managed to break his two front teeth off in his kneecap when he was a kiddo. Ouch!
That incident aside, I would love to have a trampoline (with an enclosure). Kat would have a blast in one. And so would I. Some day, when we buy a house...
Answer:
I wouldn't worry about it - people say weird stuff to us all the time because we have a pool, even though we have all the appropriate (and some extra) safety measures.
I think I said on another post the other day "when you know better - you do better." I doubt your DH will let them jump when it's uneven again - lesson learned. Big deal - you move on. Kids get hurt - and we all manage to feel guilty no matter the circumstances. At the end of the day, I think we are all trying our best to keep our kids safe.
