Ask:
DH and I want to take a vacation this sumer, but want to stay frugal about it. We will be taking our one year old daughter with us. Does anyone have some frugal vacation ideas? I live in Tuscaloosa Alabama. We were thinking about going to Atlanta to see the Aquarium and stuff like that. But I don't know if it is worth the money to go there. I have never been anywhere else but Gatlinburg, TN. Which was great, but everything is so expensive. We just don't know where to go. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA
Answer:
I know where I live when I want to somewhat save money, we go to the local forest parks, beaches and zoos. I seem to always have a coupon for something.
Wish I knew more about the area you live. But try googling things to do and the city & state and see what comes up.
Here try this website, just adjust it for your area. It give you ideas on whats going on in your area.
Answer:
How about camping? Thats what we do almost every summer. We camp at the beach but have to reserve it 6 months ahead of time.
Answer:
We're having an extremely frugal summer.
Two weeks at the in-laws. Gas to get there. Other than that it's free. We find out what days are free for the Museums and we find one free thing to go every day.
Camping. We're pitching a tent and taking the canoe out into the wilderness. We're going with friends so it should be extra fun!
Cottage: We've been invited to an extended family cottage to spend some time there. Again, after the cost of gas to get there and a nice hospitality gift, it's shouldn't cost a thing.
I've got it figured that if we turn off the air conditioning, unplug all the appliances, turn off the water heater while we're gone, we should actually break even and our vacation should be 'free.' Especially as family never lets us pay for groceries when we stay with them (we offer) so that covers the cost of gas to get there for sure.
