PAINFUL nursing

Ask:
I have been nursing my DD for 5 months now and am experiencing the most aweful pain lately. I have major cracks and blisters all over and cry out each time she latches on. I started her on cereal recently and she is eating that well. What could this be? She is latched on correctly and it only hurts at first, but it is the most painful, toe-curling, curse-inducing pain .

Any ideas?
Answer:

Hmmmmmmmm............the only time that this happened while i was nursing was when my DS had thrush. It got on my nipples ( i didn't have any white spots on my nipples but the dr. said that the mother won't always get the spots) It was terrible and i would cry the first few minutes of nursing him.
Answer:

Yep. Call the Dr. Sounds like a yeast infection - thrush. They need to treat you and her. Quickly for your comfort.
Answer:

I would say the same thing. Maybe thrush. Me and my baby had thrush. She had white spots in her mouth, and when she nursed it hurt SO bad for the first bit. Then after a minute would feel better. It was like a sharp pain in my nipples. Then after that after she'd eat for a good hour at least, my whole breast would hurt. Like an almost achey or burning feeling.
Answer:

I would say Thrush also. I actually just called and descrobed the situation and they called the prescription in~I didn't have to go anywhere and it was a quick and easy fix. I called her pediatrician, not my Dr., as she had spots in her mouth.
Answer:

I agree either thrush, but I dont get the cracks and blisters. The baby might not be latching on enough? Make a pancake out of your breast like your holding a burger, and really get it in his/her mouth. Call the dr. too!
