Ask:
Ok so our neighbor across the street hasn't impressed us with her tact and politeness. But this morning she impressed me with other skills. She was out there at 8am mowing her lawn. At 9am I went out to mow our lawn. Got dressed in jeans, old sneakers, and an old t-shirt, put my hair up in a ponytail/mess and went out w/o makeup to sweat away and mow the lawn.
15 minutes later I see that our neighbor is out doing the next section of her lawn. In a DRESS! She was in a nice business-type dress (sleeveless, wide collar, pencil skirt above knees) and shoes while mowing her lawn. I wore my jeans, t-shirt, gloves, sneakers, and was dripping with sweat and was dirty.
Somehow I had to commend her for her ability to stay clean while mowing the lawn and to not sweat while doing yard work. I have no idea how she accomplished this. I had to take a long cool shower afterward to cool off and get clean! (of course I didn't say anything to her ... she pretty much treats us with disdain and would have ignored me anyway!)
Anyone else out there do yardwork (or housework, for that matter, a la the 50's housewife) in a dress and heels? Does this exist? I sweat far too much to keep such nice clothes clean while doing any kind of work. I'm more of the athletic type anyway and I don't mind looking the part while doing yardwork. but still, I was impressed that someone could do the same thing and look perfect before, during, and after!!
Answer:
I hate wearing dresses for any reason, so there is no way I'd get in touch with my inner June Cleaver and wear a dress and heels while doing housework/yardwork!
Even though she didn't get dirty, she had to be smelly. I don't feel the heat as much as other people so I don't really sweat while mowing the lawn, but afterwards I smell like fresh-cut lawn and gasoline fumes. I have to take a shower just to get that outdoorsy odor off of me.
Answer:
I simply cannot imagine such a thing!
Answer:
The only time I wear a dress I am either going to a weddinf or a funeral!
Answer:
I can't wear heals even if I'm going to a wedding or a funeral-I would twist a ankle. Has to be flats for me. So she is impractical in my opinion I'm impressed she can do it.
Answer:
Oh man! I can only imagine. I'm happiest in my jeans and sneakers and can't imagine the logic of "dressing up" to mow the lawn.
Answer:
I can clean in dress clothes and not get dirty. I just don't use bleach!!
Answer:
I had thought about making a few of the frilly cute aprons to wear each day, I thought it would make me feel pretty. But a dress and heels, no way. I need something less constricting to be free to move about and get things done. I do, do my hair and make up every day no matter what, but that's about the extent of it.
Answer:
I can remember when I was younger asking my Daddy why did people mow their grass in their Sunday School clothes....
Answer:
Just when you think you've heard it all.....
No way would I wear a dress and heels to clean or do yard work. I sweat terribly and would never come out of it looking or smelling nice.
