Legacy Gardens...

Ask:
My family started a tradition many many years ago to plant flowers that remind you of generations past. We all have a favorite flower and that becomes "our" legacy plant..

So in my garden I have:

Lilly of the Valley ~ Great Grandma H's
Daffodills~ Grandma F's
Peony~ My mom's
Stargazer lilly~ sister
Coral Bells~ sister
Daisy~ mine
any pink ones ~dd's
dandolions~dd's

So then I added my dh's family members

zinnia's~ grandpa
pink hyacith~ grandma's
yellow mum~ mil

So as I look around I am reminded of the people that we have associated with the plants. We lost grandma last summer and when my hyacints were blooming It put a smile on my face to know they came from her and I would have them forever, along with my memories.
Answer:

THis sounds like a really cool idea! I wished I had started one before my grandma and parents died. I do have some plants that came from my parents house and my grandparents house so I guess that will have to do. But great idea!!!
Answer:

this is a very good idea my family has started to do this also... I live far away from my family but my mom has all mine for when I am ready to try to get them from NY to WA
Answer:

What a great idea. I'm going to have to tell my mom about this before my grandparents pass away.
Answer:

What a fantastic idea!!! Thanks for sharing!
Answer:

Awesome idea!
It's not on purpose (because they were here when we bought the house) but I have had so much enjoyment from my peonies this year. My grandmother (who is 98) had them lined down the side of her house when I was little. I have had so many memories of my past brought back by them this spring.

I should do some digging (figuratively and literally ) and add some other family favorites to my garden.
