Ask:
12 Quarts of them actually!! We took a bunch of them and make strawberry jam - we used only a small portion and make 26 jars of strawberry freezer jam! The best, though, - they were organic and we also used organic evaporated cane juice as the sweetener and not refined sugar!
Everyone worked at our project. Dh, ds and I all picked, washed, hulled, mashed, mixed and poured. Every time we open up a new jar we'll remember this wonderful day!
I Really like the feeling of being more self-sufficient. Dh and I are going through things that we can make ourselves and dh is even designing a root cellar for our basement! What is great too is that dh and I did this kind of stuff all the time before we got married and we're just starting to get our groove back that way plus ds can join in on the fun.
Answer:
Sounds like a great family project. Send some jam my way!!
Answer:
I would love to do something like that with my family. What a wonderful memory.
Answer:
Oh I bet they were the best tasting strawberries ever too! What a wonderful family project. We went to a local farm a week ago and bought a quart of their strawberries. While they weren't organic, they were still the freshest, best tasting ones we have ever eaten. I was cutting them up and kept telling my dh, I can't believe these berries are actually strawberry color, I can't believe the smell as they actually smelled like a strawberry! I guess I was so used to getting them in a grocery store, where they are picked way before they are ripe and sit on a truck and then sit in the store. We will never be buying them in the grocery store again! Just like I bought a jar of organic concord grape jelly and it actually tasted just like a grape, instead of all that high fructose corn syrup!
Where do you get evaporated cane juice? Some place like Whole Foods?
