Ask:
Well, I worked out in the yard yesterday, and woke up this morning with the right side of my face on fire with either poison ivy or poison oak. I have a wedding to go to this weekend, does anyone know of a homemade remedy? I don't have insurance so going to the Dr. is out unless it really starts to get worse.
Answer:
Dh gets it every year at some point...none of the homemade/typical remedies every did anything for him. We've been using Zanfel the past few years for him and it's AWESOME. One thing that does work for the itch is to use a washcloth or in the shower, run water as hot as you can stand it (don't burn yourself) over the area. It will itch MORE at first but just let the water run over it and then you should have some itch relief after that for several hours.

Thanks!!! I'm going to Wal-Greens right now!!!
Answer:
I have had the best luck with Calamine lotion. Ya know the pink stuff.
One year I had the poison ivy so bad that the doctor had to prescribe me with Prednisone.
Make sure that you do not cover up any of the poison ivy with bandages.....it just makes it worse. The rash needs to dry out as best as it can.
Good luck!! I HATE poison ivy. In fact I was just in the back yard looking at some bushes that need to be trimmed up. Then, I decided to come back in the house and think about it a little more. I might just let my DH do it for me. He NEVER gets poison ivy.
