How old was your baby when he/she started making regular eye contact?

Ask:
Without saying why, I am interested to see what answers I get on this one!
Answer:

I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "regular" eye-contact...I'm trying to think about the girls and when they looked into my eyes, and I knew there was a "connection" if you will....I breasfed both of them, so it was probably during those times and fairly early on, so maybe 2-4 weeks? I actually have a photo of my oldest at 4 weeks looking right at me with the hugest toothless grin you could imagine! So with ther, definitely by 2-3 weeks...Is this what you mean? Maybe we need more info...? HTH
Answer:

If I recall right within a month tops but she would respond to familar voices immediately...you should of seen her pop off of me and look towards the answering machine the first time her daddy left a message She started sharing in conversations with gurgles and ahhs by the time she was 2 month old. If I sat her up a certain way she would respond after I paused when talking it was too cute...I have a pic of her and my dad having a little conversation when she was 3 months old...she was very animated

Answer:

ds was making eye contact immediately - maybe 2 days old at the latest. He was a very alert little guy (and still is!)
Answer:

Hello all!

My firstborn (now 2,5yrs) started making eye contact on 6th day (not counting the coincedental eye movement), and my second one (14 days old now) started on like third day (she slept over most of first few days)... Now (14 days) she is already very interested in world around her, although she is following the sounds and dark/light areas... I read somewhere that sight of babies is poor, and is developing to normal in first month...
Answer:

Well both my kids were later than you all:hurl: . dd-I'd say a couple of months. ds-he is 20 mo and we are still working on it . He is in speech therapy (only has a couple of words). The therapist has given me a couple of strategies to encourage eye contact-and they are helping.
Answer:

Okay, I asked because I just spent a week with my 3 month old nephew. He smiles, coos, even giggled for the first time this week, etc, but he doesn't "catch your eye" to do it like most babies do. He just sort of looks around you or in your general direction...and I got the feeling he was smiling at your voice more than anything. He does watch tv...but that coul djust be the constant motion of a big picture...the colors, etc. I didn't mention anything to my sister or mom, but I was sort of worried. I noticed it the first day...and then kept noticing it all week. Maybe it is nothing, but it bothered me...and has made me worry about him.
Answer:

I wondered if you were asking for your nephew. I just googled it and one of the first sights said between 6 and 8 weeks. But, as you know, babies develop at different paces. I wouldn't worry too much about it just yet, expecially knowing all your sister has on her plate right now. Are you going to see them again this summer? I'd definitely check in again with them and notice any improvements (or not) in a few weeks. Hopefully he's just developing this a little later than others, but you want to catch eye problems early~for obvious reasons!! Good luck and let us know how he's doing!!
