We got dominoes gift certificates as baby gift (they were the paper version, back then!) and they were the best thing EVER! When new moms can't even get a shower let alone dinner, they are much appreciated and WELL remembered..
My godson loves blockbuster gift cards for video game rentals. Is there a netflix rental service for video games?
These are great ideas and I plan to incorporate some into my gift giving plans this year! I have heard from several teachers that they much prefer gift cards and consumables than another nick nack. Thanks!!

If you have an older relative that uses assistance buses/vans to go to the grocery store or doctors' visits you could buy them passes for so many round trips. I contacted the facility my grandmother lives in and they had never do ne it before, but they created a gift cert on the computer for me. They informed the drivers and they just marked it off as she used it.
My mom has purchased her gift cards to the grocery store

OK- I'm such a big dork. What is the easiest way to get the pizza gift cards? Do you have to go to, say, Papa Johns or Dominoes? Can you get them online and have them mailed to you? I used to trek all the way to the OUtback every time I needed a gift card from there, and then one day I saw them for sale in the Publix grocery store five minutes from my house! Grr.... I felt so dumb.

I wanted to add also that stamps and a current family address list and some nice cards or address labels can be a great gift basket idea... you can make address lables on the computer, or the kids could use rubber stamps to decorate a notecard set.

Our grocery store (vons/safeway) sells pizza gift cards for Pizza Hut -- I love that grocery stores sell gift cards!
Answer:
I forgot...you can order Papa Johns gift cards online!

I also love getting them!!!I wish I could talk DH's family into doing a smaller value gift card than spending all the money they do on junk we don't need or want.
BUT, that said. . .here is why I don't usually do gift cards for certain people. For DH siblings- it got to a point where they only wanted gift cards and asked us not to get anything else for them but gift cards (kids included) Now, I don't have a problem with thoughtful gift cards, but I don't want to do a gift exchange when all we do is swap Target gift cards. To me, that kind of defeats the whole point and I'd ratherjust swap cards or homemade gifts than gift cards. Then I can spend that money when I have it rather than around the holidays.
I love doing art baskets for kids. By then their crayons and such from August are worn down and new stickers, glues, crayons, etc seem to be a hit.
Also, one year did a dinner for a month card. Basically, it was a list of menus and the recipient got to choose 5 days that I would bring them a complete meal and choose from the menus I gave them. When making the menus, find things that freeze well so you can easily have dinner available for any time.

I am thinking of a gift basket for my son's teacher this year would be all the little things that teachers need, but it all adds up, like post it notes, personalized or cute note cards/pad, nice pen/pencil, maybe some hard candy, copy paper, maybe reward stickers/rubber stamp, you get the idea. I know my husband is a teacher and he would really appreciate those things that the school doesn't pay for, that he needs or could use. So many ideas!!!!!

I really like this idea. Especially for someone with older parents or grandparents.
