Red Velvet Cake

Ask:
recipe?

Thanks!
Answer:

It's so funny you asked about this. I was telling one of my best friends today that my mom always made the BEST red velvet cake from scratch and that it was one of my brother's favorite dessert. I was telling her the next time I was at their house (we still haven't sold it since their deaths) I was going to search through her old recipes and look for some of them, including the RV cake. Unfortunately that doesn't help you now, but I can maybe get it in a few weeks if you're in no hurry.

My friend told me I should type them up and make a book to give to my dd when she gets married of grandma's recipes. I like that idea.
Answer:

I don't have a from scratch recipe, I do have a good "doctored" cake mix recipe if you are interested.

I will say though I have tried Paula Deen's recipe and we didn't like it, not much flavor and a little dry.

In case anyone's interested, here's what I use. I like it and a friend of dh says it's the best he's had, almost as good as his mom's made from scratch.

Duncan Hines Red Velvet cake mix
oil and eggs as directed on box (no water!)
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup buttermilk

Mix well and pour into well greased and floured pans. I don't know baking time...I just watch it and test for doneness. I am really careful not to overbake it, though, I think DH mixes dry out easily! Hope you like it if you try it!
