Ask:
I went over to Aldi on my lunch break and I was just wondering, for those of you who shop there, what you and your family like at Aldi? I bought crackers, french fries and chicken broth to try, but I was unsure about what other things to try. Suggestions??
Answer:
Here is a list of things I like:
I usually buy staples at Aldi that rarely or never go on sale at the grocery store or never have coupons out for them.
-cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup...I actually like these better than campbells.
-crackers
-graham crackers
-chips
-cookies
-oatmeal
-canned vegetables
-canned fruit
-pudding mix
-jello mix
-flour
-sugar
-chocolate chips
-chicken broth and beef broth
-some produce...but you have to look because some is bruised, wilted, etc.
-milk
-sour cream
-cream cheese
-their whole, multi grain fancy bread is good but you have to use it fast because it gets moldy quickly
I don't buy any fresh meat there, some of the ladies on this board said it was not worth trying.
Answer:
It's easier for me to post what I DON'T buy there....hope this helps....
Fresh meats : I can get it cheaper on sale at Food Lion or Harris Teeter
Cheese (individually sliced~ not the bricks) (always tastes sour)
English muffins (they get moldy too fast)
Milk...only b/c I get it cheaper at BJ's
Anything else I get there...yes, Kelli (because I know you'll read it) even the bread...I had very bad luck with the loaves of bread, but my luck has changed....

I do shop there regularly...the things I get there vary depending on what sales are happening at other stores in my area. For the most part I ALWAYS buy...
BREAD!!!
Buns
French Toast sticks
Waffles
Canned Vegies
Applesauce in the jars
French Fries
Kids Cereal
Jelly
Pretzels
Microwave Popcorn
Animal Crackers
Pasta
Rice a roni type stuff
White Rice
cream soups
Ibuprophen (or whatever theirs is)
Frozen Pizza
Baby Carrots
ummmm......that's all I can think of.
I used to just buy certain things, afraid to branch out too far. But most all I have tried has been good. It's right around the corner from us, and if we move I will REALLY miss it!
Answer:
Easier to say I don't buy their cheese, spag sauce, ketchup, diapers, or toilet paper.
Love their cereal, milk, vanilla coffee creamer and anything in the freezer case. Their spiral cut hams are the best. I buy all my baked goods from there.
Tip:best brownies I've made is to take a package of their brownies, mix as described, add about half a bag of chocolate chips, and bake as on brownie package. Costs less than $2.00 and people at work love them
Trick is when you find a product you like stock up if your budget allows. Sometimes the items rotate through and might not be in stock the next time you need it.
Answer:
I guess I can 2nd most of what everyone else has said. I basically stock up on the staples but learned that bisquick is better than the aldi brand, but the shredded cheese is ok; I usually freeze it anyway. We just tried their squeeze yogurts and my DS who usually easts those liked the aldi's brand just fine.
Everytime I go, I know I always get:
chicken broth
cream mush/chick soup
taco seasoning
onion soup mix
chips - tortilla chips are actually pretty good
some kind of cereal
graham crackers
animal crackers
cream cheese
sour cream
That is all that is coming to mind right now....
Answer:
Here's what I buy ( I'm there like once a week and also know the prices of everything, pretty sad!):
cereal: apple cinnamon cheerios, honey nut cheerios (their version not real Cheerios)
fruit and nut museli
peanut butter/cheese cracker pkgs
applesauce cups
mandarin oranges cups
swiss choc bar with almonds are soooo good
graham crackers
saltine crackers
ritz type crackers for the kids, I don't care for them as I prefer Ritz
syrup
honey
american cheese slices
cheese
cottage cheese
fabric softener sheets
bleach
make-up remover cloths
paper towels (I used to only use Bounty, now these)
napkins
soups, clam chowder is very good
chic broth
ground beef
apple juice, berry juice (like Juicy Juice, no added sugar)
blue corn tortilla chips and salsa
canned veggies and fruit
frozen pizza
taco seasoning
peanut butter
spaghetti sauce and pasta
oatmeal
baking ingredients
mac & cheese and easy mac & cheese (if the kids don't mind, I'm buying it!)
I know there's more but I just can't think of them. THere really isn't much I wont buy there. I haven't tried their pork or steaks yet, we just got that section in our store.
I forgot to add I use their dish detergent and dishwasher powder, coffee filter (the cone ones are only $1.39 for 100), lunchables, small boxes of candy like Reece's Pieces for the movies.
Answer:
Some household stuff,
sometimes their special offers on household stuff,
biscuits for treats
childrens mini party snacks
toilet paper
some cleaning things
and now that they have a small organic range they are trying any pasta, rice, or organic staples they have
Answer:
Here are a couple things I really DO LIKE there
-Diapers
-Cat Liter
-there brand of Febreze (LOVE the smell)
A few this we DO NOT LIKE there
-Milk
-Brats
-Bacon
Hope some of this helps.
Answer:
I second the spaghetti sauce one. YUCK. Double yuck. And, my family doesn't like their frozen salsburry steak. They can tell, even if I put it in a casserolle dish when I buy it there! We also don't care for the sliced cheese, but love the blocked cheese. All paper goods, I buy at WalMart. It just is cheaper there and also, it is better quality. Besides that, we like most everything else. Meat is not any cheaper, but if I buy it there, I haven't had any problems...and everything else tastes as good as namebrands for a fraction of the cost. I LOVE what I save by going there!!
