Ask:
Let's face it, making movies is big business - would you be more likely to see a movie specifically because Tom Cruise is in it or avoid it?
Answer:
I read this this AM...They have had a LONG relationship (maybe this should be with celebrity divorce too? ) and Paramount is THE movie company....
To answer your question, I don't see or avoid a movie b/c of Tom Cruise. I still love Jerry Maguire and you can try to pry my copy of Top Gun from my cold dead hands...but not b/c of Cruise...b/c I love the movie itself. Now War of the Worlds....Nope didn't see it and prob. never will, again not b/c of Cruise but b/c it looks TERRIBLE.
Answer:
I wouldn't see a movie just because Tom Cruise is in it, but I wouldn't avoid it either if it looked like a good movie. I don't hate Tom Cruise the actor, I just think he's acting a little silly in his personal life. Two of my favorite movies, 'A Few Good Men' and 'The Firm', are Tom Cruise movies and I will not stop watching them just because he's turned into a nut.
Even if he didn't start acting like a weirdo, I think his career has peaked and he's on the downside, kind of like Harrison Ford. I'll be surprised if Tom remains a box office draw. He'll probably end up being a supporting actor in movies or possibly doing some television work.
I thought 'War of the Worlds' was a good movie, but Tom was horribly miscast. I would have preferred seeing Kurt Russell or Dennis Quaid in the lead role.
Answer:
I loved him in Top Gun, he is cute (i admit it!) but it shows that his personal antics can effect his professional work. maybe he will straighten up now?
Answer:
Is it legal to let someone go because of religious belief or a personal belief in medicating? Yes he is crazy but my husband couldn't fire someone on these issues. Sure he's a wack job but so what he jumps on a couch, doesn't take meds and hides his baby....are these reasons to can him?
I don't care for him much but if he was in a movie that looked good i'd watch it.

You bring up some good points. In the real world, this would not be tolerated. However, this is Hollyweird and the rules are different out there. MI 3 didn't do well, so people are considering Tom box office poison now and distancing themselves from him. I haven't read the article yet, so I don't know all the details. Perhaps Tom's contract with Paramount was up for renewal, and Paramount decided not to renew it.
OK, I just read the article. I'm surprise Paramount is being so mouthy about why they're no longer working with Tom. What's the old saying about not burning any bridges?
Answer:
I can't stand Tom Cruise. Those of us in the real world deal with the consequences of our actions all the time and now so in ol' Tom. He is considered a liability to his studio, so they opted not to renew their contract, perfectly within their rights. I say good for Paramount.
Answer:
This is interesting. One of the surveys I did was about Tom Cruise and whether his recent antics caused me to not see his movies. Perhaps our voices do count on these surveys.
Answer:
I refuse to watch his movies. I have no plans of ever seeing another one.
Answer:
I have to admit I like Top Gun (but I was a teenager when it came out and who didn't enjoy the volleyball scene).
I will not pay money to see a movie he is in now however. I think his views on mental health, post partum depression, scientology, and jumping on furniture are crazy. The movie business is just that, a business. I think Paramount was right about not renewing his contract.
