How do you get rid of....

Ask:
flys?! I know this is kind of a dumb question but ever since we have moved in this house we have had a serious fly problem. Now I am not talking about 2 or 3 I am talking about ALOT!!! I cant get rid of them. We have tried swatting them but that just leaves a nasty mess to clean up. I have literally gone through every room in the house searching for something that could be attracting them (food, ect) and nothing. We also thought that it may have been ds guinea pig that just died. She had an absess(really gross so I wont get into it). She is gone and we got rid of all of her stuff and cleaned where her cage was. We even tried looking for the sticky fly traps and cant find them anywhere. Its so embarrassing to have people over and have flys all over the place. Its weird too cuz everytime we seem to be getting rid of them then they come back in full force. So if anyone has any ideas to get rid of them I would truely appreciate it! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
Answer:

Oh no...I would keep looking to see where they're coming from. That would be my first concern.

Have you tried looking for fly traps at Home Depot or any hardware store? I've seen the sticky traps and then other types of fly traps at Home Depot and Loews.

I had a fly problem a few years ago, we never did figure out where they were coming from but I finally just hung a fly trap near a light and turned off all the other lights. Somehow the flies are attracted to the light and then get stuck in the trap. It worked really well for me.

I found that a box type fly trap worked better for me than the sticky kind - I'll try to find a pic of it online.

It was something similar to this but I was able to find it at Home Depot or Loews.

Good luck!

I was asking my bee exterminator about flys this year. We get them pretty bad sometimes. There is a cow barn next door to us so I think that may attract them here. You can get a spray for your screens call that will keep them off so they aren't coming in when you open the doors. Or the bee guy says that they could be in the walls themselves. There is only one way to get rid of them if that's the case, to call an exterminator. But he said there is only one month (aug or sept ???) that they can do it and have it work. I probably wouldn't hurt to call and ask and exterminator for some advice.

OUr dog had puppies a few months back and when we moved them outside our house got invaded with flys! I mean it was nasty... I felt iky all the time and thought I was going to lose my mind because I was always hunting to kill them... My mom told me to kill them with windex... I know it sound funny but for some reason they like hanging on your windows so you just go and squirt them down, then they are pretty much drowning in it and you scoop them up with paper towels. I know one time I pulled back my drapes and I killed 9 of them that way. Thank gosh they are gone now... it was all that pooping the puppies were doing. Best of luck to you...

Now go get ya some fly!

Do you live in the Memphis area, too?!?! AAAHHH!!!! This is a DAILY battle for us. I am so good with the flyswatter now that the kids know to look for the dead fly as soon as I swat!! GROSS. I hate the things..and I have a pretty clean house, with storm doors that make sure the doors never stay open. NOTHING we have done has worked, so if you find something that does, let me know!
Answer:

Shawna, I just tried the windex thing the other day...My SIL told me abvout it months ago, but I forgot about it, I HATE flies. Almost as much as spiders. I've gotten pretty quick that I can get them with just about anything handy, but the windex is GREAT...It disables them, they can crawl...but not fly. Long enough for me to kill it -works for me! Luckily, they're not (knock on wood)as bad as some posts seem to be, but still when you hate them, even 2 flies is too many....

Have you guys ever heard of hanging a baggie filled with water over your doorway to prevent flies? I've never done it but I've read about it in a few places over the years and always wondered if it worked...has anyone tried it?

Nope not in Memphis. We hardly ever have the windows open only b/c the former owners took all but one or two screens w/ them when they moved and we havent had the money to replace them. As for the swatting EEEEWWWW!! Dh swats those buggers and then just leaves them! So then I get to step on them in bare feet or put my hand down on one on the counter. I just keep thinking there has to be a better way.
