Make your own pita chips

Ask:
I love Stacy's Pita Chips. We like to get the big bag at Costco as a treat, but lately they have been so expensive even at Costco that I have been passing on them. Well, today I found a bag of pita bread pushed to the back of my fridge and thought... I wonder if I can make my own?

I did, and they turned out GREAT. I just cut them up, brushed them with olive oil and salt, and baked at 350 for about 12-15 minutes (till they were crunchy). I can't believe they tasted just like the ones I was buying. Dh stared at the plate and said, "You do realize that's about $5 worth of store bought pita chips right there?" My bag cost me a dollar at Publix, plus a few minutes in the oven. I am kicking myself that I never tried this sooner.

I love to make my own pita chips and tortlla chips. Have you made the baked tortilla chips yet? It's the same as the recipe for pita chips. Another great thing to make is baked apple chips, slice into very thin round chip slices-great if you have a mandolin slicer- otherwise, use a sharp paring knife- and bake at 250 on foil topped baking sheet for 2 hours. You can brush w/ an egg wash and sprinkle on cinnamon, sugar or splenda if you want...yummy! Snack on !

The apples sound GREAT!!!!!!!! My grandma used to make dehydrated apples with a food dehydrator and those were good....I will be making these very soon! (I am almost 39 weeks pregnant and most things sound wonderful to me) I am sure my kiddos are going to love these...Thanks for another great food idea

That's awesome and so funny that you posted this b/c I was at a friends house on Friday and had Stacy's chips for the first time. I thought they were REALLY good. I love that they're more hearty than a potato chip and perfect for scooping up dip. She had made tuna salad so we were dipping the pitas in that. Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to make them this week, definitely!

I always make tortilla chips like this. I also spray the tortilla chips with cooking spray and then dip in sugar and cinnamon. They taste just the the cinnamon chips you get at Taco Bell. YUMMY!
