Do any of you know of a GOOD, effective sunscreen (preferably high SPF) that is NOT sticky or greasy? DS and dd are so fair, that I have to put it on them EVERY time we are in the sun. Dr's orders. DS has to have it applied by the nurse before recess and PE. He avoids going out at home because he hates the feeling. I've tried many, but no good results. The little guy recently developed three freckles, so I'm worried there, too. I'm not being overprotective; we live in Arizona where you can literally burn in 10-15 minutes if you're fair like us (I'm Irish and Seneca Indian, DH is of English descent). My sister has already had two melanoma sites removed, and she lives in Boston!
In addition, I'm looking for some foldup type of sunglasses for him. Again, blue eyes - more sensitive. DH is only 44 and already is developing cataracts. AZ makes it worse. DS takes his sunglasses to school, and teacher is ensuring he wears them during recess, but he forgets and leaves them in his cubby - he brought 5 pair home today. I would like to find a foldup pair- I know they have adult ones- that he can just keep in his pocket. Poor kid - it's hard for him in PE, too, with this, but what choice do we have? It's either protect now and be "nerdish" for it, or go without and be cool but have problems as an adult.

Have you tried the new coppertone sprays? I baby-sat a boy over the summer that has albinism (sp). That is the kind his mother sent for him and it didn't seem to bother him and was very easy to apply. He has to have reapplied every 15-20 minutes depending on how hot it is. HTH

I LOVE California Baby Sunscreen products. I use the fragrance free sunscrren on the kids every day; it is not greasy and has no scent. I order it on line- usually do a google search to find the lowest price. I also like their sunscreen with citronella to keep away the bugs. It's not cheap, but I think it's well worth it and one tube lasts a long while.

You must try Blue Lizard sunscreen - they call it suncream I believe - it is just fabulous! It is Australian and it is so creamy and goes on so easily and it is thick so you don't have to keep applying it. It lasts for a long time. My oldest is very blond and fair with blue eyes and burns in literally about 5 minutes. This is the only sunscreen we have ever found that works for him. And a bonus - it is extremely waterproof - the water just beads up on your skin. I just love it. You can look it up on drugstore.com and read all the reviews by parents of fair children. Everyone that tries it gets hooked. They make it for babies, sensitive skin, and just regular. My son freckles easily too (I wish I could say he only has a few, but his little face is sprinkled with them now) and he won't wear sunglasses but he will wear a baseball hat. He pulls it down low and it helps his sensitive eyes. Maybe you could try sending a cap to school with him for recess.

Have you considered getting him regular eyeglasses that darken outside, even though he doesn't need glasses? Schools here don't allow sunglasses on the olaygrounds- dumb rule- and that is what I did to get around the rule. The regular frames are better made, my kids have titanium frames and they are almost indestructable.

Aveno just came out with this awesome greaseless sunscreen, my dermotologist gave me a few samples, and I love it. It's SPF 50. And I can use it on my face too. I love it.
