Ask:
I know, I know, this show is so edited and staged and has a million commercial breaks but i just love this show!!! I have to watch it each week, it's like a train wreck.
Last night was a 2 hour premiere,so you got to see 2 different families. The first family swap was interesting, though i did feel a little sorry for the girls from the wealthy family that their mom was so obsessed with appearances that the girls had to wake at 4:30 a.m. each school day to get their hair straightened and make-up applied.Nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but that's just a little over the top.
The second family(last hour of the show) had me laughing. They lived the "Pirate" life??!!! The other mom was a professional organizer, and the pirate wife couldn't stand how organized the new families house was. Heck, i was jealous, i WISH my house was that organized!!! The pirate families house was a mess, the husband quit his good paying job to be a pirate full time and write pirate books. Not sure if the wife worked at all?
At the end when the families meet up..........OMG, i would have been so embarrassed that the guest mom had to pay my utility bills,to keep from having the elec/gas shut off while she was staying there, but the other mom just says " well they got paid didn't they?!".......unbelievable!!!
Answer:
I really like this show too but had a meeting last night and missed it. I set up the VCR but forgot to put a tape in grrrrrr
Thanks for the recap
Answer:
And what was up with the pirate family just living with the fleas????? Ya think they wouldn't exterminated. YUCK!
Answer:
Off topic a little but last month at my nephew's birthday party they were taping an episode of Wife Swap so I'm sure you will see us on there! I'll have to watch now and find out which one it will be!
Answer:
One of my nephews BEST friends in school is Millie ~ the pirate daughter.
I don't ususally watch this show ~ however ~ my sister is in town from Oregon this week, and (of course) had to watch it. ABC actually contacted the Pirate family to be on the show due to their lifestyle. The Dad is the person who created "Talk like a Pirate Day" (Spet 19th), which has actually become recognized internationally. They do dress like that all 90% of the time ~ They represented their views very acurately (so I'm told), but Sally did go overboard in the drama dept.
I could NEVER live like they do - I agree it was pretty gross (and embarassing), however I do think that the organized mom was a little obsessive compulsive with the "outside appearance" thing.

What does the pirate family do for income besides him writing pirate books?? Did the pirate mom have any kind of job? That soooooo grossed me out when the pirate mom licked the kitchen floor, ewwww!!!!
Yes, the organized mom was a little TOO overboard, but wow, she sure had a clean house!! I need her to come over and get my kids to be as organized as hers!! Though in some ways i did feel sorry for her daughter because she seems so obsessed with things looking good and she practically has an emotional melt-down over such small things. She already has signs of stress and anxiety at such a young age.

Watching her made we want to go out and buy a label maker!

Okay, I watched too, but I cannot really believe that people live like that. I mean come on, Pirates. Those people were either really wacked or just putting on a show for TV. I felt bad for the organized mom, I would have left to sleep in a hotel too. No way I am living with fleas. That is just beyond belief. I know that people get them in their homes, heck I have dealt with them a time or two, but I would never have anyone over, especially to spend 2 weeks in my home and not have the problem rectified before hand. Just plain inconsiderate and crazy. Then the pirate mom is throwing the other peoples stuff on the ground and such. If it were me, I would want to smack her for treating my stuff like that. I don't even let my kids get away from treating their things that way. Heck, we work hard for what we have, there is no reason to trash it.

They do fine with their income (from what I understand) ~ did you notice that it never said they didn't HAVE the money.....they just made different choices with their money. Pirates don't live by "rules" ~ I think they just choose not to pay the bills (did ya notice the new VW in the driveway???).
Now I am not defending them because I personally do not know them....my nephew does, and my sister has encountered them briefly. Cap'n Slappy teaches a theater class that my nephew has been involved with (along with Millie), and the rest of the Bauer family is in the theater too. Rumor has it Pirattitude (the book Dad has written) is being made into a broadway play.
As for their house....I don't know. My sister has never been there and my nephew has never mentioned anything about it to her. As for the future ~ I don't know that he will be able to ever visit again.

I watched, and I decided I do not like the pirate mom! I thought she was WAY off base, essp with the other family. I thought she was inappriate essp to teh little girl, and gave her such a hard time becasue the kid actually had respect for herself and wasn't a slob. Granted she was a bit extreme, but since when is having price in your appearance and repect for yourself wrong??
The other thing that bugs me about these shows is when they do the rule change, the kids activities are always the first thing they take away. Telling the kid he couldn't go to football, and the girl she couldn't go to cheerleading. These activies were important to THEM, and it was WRONG of her to take them away. NOT to mention that those sports teach teamwork, commitment, and sportsmanship.
I LOVED the organized mom, but I thought she went a bit overboard trying to organize the pirate family. Yah they could afford to have the house cleaned up a bit, and get rid of the fleas, but to make them organize everything and label everything was a bit much.
Finally, again, that pirate mom just upset me! She made me so mad at the end when they were at the table and she said she lets her children swear. If that is how they feel, they should be allowed to express it, and if that means she swears, so be it. ITS CALLED RESPECT LADY, LEARN IT!!
