Ask:
I am a little confused about the sizes of baby clothes. I know that there is 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months. I wanted to know what to do for 9-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months. I am a new parent and don't really know that much about baby clothes. Please help!!!
Answer:
For me, the easiest way to tell what size my kids need is that most baby clothing lists not only the size (0-3 months), but weight & length. I go by those measurements more than the actual size. Sizes vary a lot for different brands, but I haven't had much problem with them fitting if I go by the weight/length measurements (except Carter's, which I've found to be short on my son, even though he is within the height range).
Answer:
I look at the weight more than at the size, right now my DS is 14months, but 12mnth clothes are fitting him!. It really depends on the baby, thats why I never prebuy anything, just buy as your baby need it.

I feel your pain Momof1! I felt the same way. I have a 6 mo old. I was sorting through some clothes that a couple of friends had given me, and I think I figured it out while sorting (Correct me if I'm wrong moms who have more children).
12 months really means 9-12
18 months really means 12-18
24 months means 18-24
I try to go by the weight or length, too, but I discovered a number of clothes that don't have it listed.
Answer:
Yeah, the weight is the key. It's always better to go up a size. So many run to small, and our kids run big! They grow sooo quickly. Welcome to the marketing to momhood!!
Answer:
Weight and height are the best gauges. My 10mth ds is in 18mth already! If buying ahead, I always buy the size by the month and then the next size up. Both of my kids have outgrown clothes before the season has ended, but after all of the clothes have been clearanced out of the stores! If in doubt, buy bigger. I always buy tops a size bigger (as long as they don't hang to bad.) Especially in winter, you can roll the sleeves up and then get more wear for your money!
Also remember that some companys size 24mth and 2t the same and others don't. I have found that Gymboree and Old Navy size 24mth smaller than 2t and Carters 24mth and 2t are the same.

I've had to go by the height and weight too. Aidan has been in 12 month clothes for sometime now, and he's only 11 months old. I got some 2T Gerber Onesies and they fit him really good too. My brother brought him some 18 months stuff from Kuwait and he's wearing it already.
Answer:
Don't really go by that, every brand is different and your baby will be in a bigger size than stated. I always buy a size bigger, like at 6 months I buy 12 months. Unless you are buying Gymboree baby clothes which always fit right on size for my babies however my 4 year old is in their size 6.

Answer:
My motto is if I'm unsure, I buy big since you can always wear something that's too big but not something that's too small. Some stuff shrinks (Wal-Mart brand clothing especially), some brands run small, and some styles don't fit bigger babies well (usually the more tailored name brands). I really think that with baby clothes sometimes you just have to live and learn - and then find someone to pass your stuff on to when you're done so that if you have clothing that doesn't get worn much (and you will) that someone else will get good use out of it.
