diaper rash

Ask:
My 13 mo old dd seems to get a very red rash every couple of days. I change her diaper very often (don't let her sit wet) and always use desitin. Any suggestions?
Answer:

what kind of diapers are you using? What kind of wipes? You probably need to change both. Are you using products with no perfumes, etc. Huggies Natural Care Unscented wipes work well. Pampers cruisers work well. Huggies diapers have been known to leave rashes on sensitive skin. After the rash is there, Boudreaux's Butt Paste can be bought anywhere works well.
Answer:

Also try to let her go bare bottom for a little bit when you change her diaper before you put another on, gives it time to dry and air out!
Answer:

desitin has always given my DS problems. it sticks to him so bad i have to practically rub him raw to get it off. i'll never use it again. When DS gets a rash, I put a very slight amount of neosporin with pain reliever on a clean and DRY butt and then a layer of classic A&D ointment. clears it right up. keep track of what she's eating, and try changing the wipes/diapers like mentioned above. also, have you changed baby soap or anything like that?
Answer:

Every baby is different, but heat and moisture (from sweating) alone can cause a rash, as can a lot of soaps, including baby soaps. Here's what I do to avoid a rash: I don't even use wipes on mid-night changes when needed. I wipe the butt dry after I do use a wipe so we don't start w/a wet diaper. For her going-to-bed change I put a good layer of A&D cream (not ointment, but you have to see what works for you) on as a preventive measure. The only time she ever had a rash was during a round of antibiotics, then it was the bad yeast one. None otherwise.
Answer:

I would definately try to remember if she has eaten anything different or if you have changed anything, bath soap, wipes, diapers that she may be having a reaction to. We haven't had but a couple diaper rashes around here but I love the butt paste. My dh gets a little "diaper rash" when it's hot and he swears by it.
Answer:

I would try changing the diaper brand. When DS#1 was little, I tried Huggies on him, and after two days, he would have this really bad diaper rash. I hadn't fed him anything different or ate anything different myself. I went back to pampers, and the rash was gone, and then when he was toddler, I put the huggies pull-ups on him, and again the rash appeared, so we had to stick to the pampers. I would go bare-bottom during the day if at all possible. HTH
Answer:

A totally different suggestion. Buy some Monistat cream (any brand) and try that on the rash. It could be yeast...even a mild case. ALL babies get them..boys and girls..but they are easy to clear up just by putting the over the counter cream on the rash itself..NOT internally.
Answer:

Great suggestions...thanks!! Such smart mommies

I've tried changing diaper brands...I need to try wipes.

I use the desitin creamy -- which actually seems to solve it (at least in the short term).

I'm going to try the Monistat thing...because the yeast thing is making sense.
Answer:

let them air out, let them be diaper free for a while. If they arent crawling yet. lay them on the floor with a cloth diaper covering their front (if a boy) and let them be.
