Ask:
My husband and I share a really small bathroom. We have one sink, one drawer and two cabinets under the sink. I seem to take over with all of my stuff...hardly have room for towels, etc. Any storage/organization ideas? Thanks!

We have the same problem at our house. Only we have a sink that is attached to the wall and is bare underneath, it is too close to the toilet and bathtub to even fit a vanity base under it. We have a narrow built in cabinet behind the bathtub, the only way to fit our bathtowels into it is to roll them instead of folding them flat, that way we can stack them inside the cabinet like logs and it gives us alot more room for towels. We have shelf unit above the toilet for things like deoderant, hair products, qtips, cotton balls, etc. I reuse old Home Interior's brand glass candle jars w/ lids to store my qtips and cotton balls in,so they look pretty too. I have a basket on the top of the toilet tank that i store my brushes and combs in. We keep alot of the shampoos, body washes, soaps, all the misc.showering/bathing supplies that we are currently using on a wire-coated metal rack bolted to the back wall of the shower/tub. I found the rack at Walmart, it is originally used for the back side of a door, i think it was called over the door pantry shelves??Anyway,we use it for the shower/tub, works great and the shelves are adjustable, and keeps things from piling up on the edges of the tub.
If you have enough wall space, could you install open shelving for things like washclothes, hand towels and set hair products in baskets on the shelves??? Those rolling plastic storage carts with drawers come in handy too if you have any space behind a door or something??? If things get too crowded, you can do what we did. We have a pretty, decorative antique looking dresser just outside the bathroom door, its at the bottom of our open stairway in the small hallway between our livingroom and kitchen. I store extra bathroom items in it, like toilet paper, feminine products, band aids, etc. in it and keep framed pictures on the top of it so it looks more like decorative and nobody knows i have bathroom items in it.

Also, there are over-the-toilet storage cabinets.. I remember seeing one for really reasonable (like $25 or $30 maybe??) but I can't find it right now. I'll keep looking. I want to take the towel rod off the wall that is above our toilet and put one of these cabinets there. Here's an example of what I'm talking about, but you can find it a lot cheaper in other places..
-put shelving inside of your cabinets, so you can maximize use of your space

There was a tv show once that had the dad shaving using the toaster in the kitchen as his mirror!! When a guest asked why it was because his wife had taken up the entire bathroom with her "stuff"!! DH used to laugh at this constantly..cause our old house was the same way. My bathroom in our new house is my very favorite room!! It is HUGE. My mil says it is a waste of space..but it is MY space to waste!!

Thanks for the great ideas! I appreciate it. I think I'll look into buying one of those over the toilet things...that would help a lot!

My husband and I have a similar situation! We found a simple solution that works for us. We had several Rubbermaid plastic "shoe boxes" lying around. We organized our bathroom items and put them into these shoe boxes. We use 2 of them for first aid kits, one for extra toiletries, and we each have one for day-to-day items. In the morning, I just open up our under-the-sink cabinet, get out my plastic shoe box, and get ready for the morning. Before leaving the bathroom, all of the items get put BACK in the shoe box, and the shoe box is replaced. We finally have the bathroom counter free of clutter. Hooray!
We have a large cabinet under the sink that has plenty of room for towels, washcloths, and hand towels, so I do not have any suggestions for those!
