Kitchens

Ask:
What colors are in your kitchen? Is there a theme? Do you have an island? A penisula? Flat top range or burners? Gas or electric? Pantry? Share a picture!
Answer:

My kitchen makes me want to cause bodily harm. There is practically no counterspace and the cupboards are made for a frigging giant. The top shelves might as well be non-existent. Everything's white. WHITE?! Even the tiles were white when we moved in. They made this faux island which is really part of the house, and all it does is block the livingroom from being an open area. It's a waste. The countertop there is like 2½ x 3 feet since the rest of it houses our tiny microwave. The stove is a regular stove. It's good. Needs some new burner dishes but it works very well. The sink is one of those divided sinks, and it's tiny. So that's annoying too. This is one of many things I hate about my house. But it's not the most hated, believe it or not.
Answer:

we (my dh and I) just re did our kitchen .. I hated it before it was to small and it was only a one maybe 2 person kithcen and it was not working for us... keep in mind we just bought a house so we are poor so we bought handles off ebay re used every peioce of cabinet that we could the counter is reused and we will when we have the money to replace the countertop. The walls are red the range is black (gas) that was done as soon as we moved in since the range was orig and looked like it wasn't cleaned in 10 years.
this is before but there use to be cabinets hanging from the ceiling that are already taken down
cabinets finish that I am doing but not done with yet ]
Answer:

Looks like you have done alot of work. We are doing the same thing. I really would like to pull all of the cabinets out and start over, but the money just isn't there.

We have a gas cooktop and separate gas wall oven.(I wouldn't cook with anything but gas) This house has no pantry. I don't know how the woman did it for so many years with no pantry and 3 growning boys. I have quite a bit of counter space and cabinets, but no island. That and the pantry are 2 things we will be adding.

My walls are painted Oatmeal (which is actually darker than oatmeal) My cabinets are crackle painted red base and light beige top coat. I kind of have a theme of vegetables. I have always collected vegetable decor, but don't have everything up right now.

My next challenge is lighting. We only have one light in the whole kitchen right in the center. I get a shadow where ever I stand. It is very annoying. Trying to get my dh to install recessed lighting. Just not sure when it will happen.

If I could figure out how to post pictures I would.

We are still in the planning stages...

debellafunk -- your kitchen looks great. Are you painting your cabinets?

I really like your floors!
Answer:

Debella, love your kitchen!!!

Ours is blue, white and yellow striped wallpaper on top of chair rail and yellow paint underneath. The wallpaper was here when we moved in and I kinda liked it so I added the yellow paint on the bottom a few months ago. I don't have as much counter space as I'd like, but it's a good size kitchen for us!
We are forever thinking of ways to get more 'cooking' space in it! Lighting is another issue, I have a ceiling fan with lights on one side of the kitchen and a ceiling light on the other side, functional, but not really 'decorative' KWIM?
Answer:

Thanks everyone
CAgirl yes I am painting them... well we Dh and I painted them white... and I am gel staining over the white to antique them.. today we just put on the handles that I got off of ebay for less than a $1 a pc... I am really happy and excited how it is turning out.

Answer:

Man I wish I could post a picture. I can never get photobucket to work.

Our kitchen is large. Dh just put in new laminate that looks like ceramic tile (sort of like cobblestones) and it is kind of like "Country French" without the country colors. The walls are a bisque beige, with the Butler pantry a ruby red. We have black/brown granite with flecks of green (that I can't see). We have lots of silver - silver platters, silver coffee set, large mirror on the island, etc. The cabinets are light maple which create a nice contrast to the dark countertops and flooring. We have black patterned oriental rugs on the floor and in the panty which is large (walk in). Above the island is a large crystal chandilier with lots of 'baubles'. Above the sink is another crystal and silver light, with 6 potlights my dh put in! The curtains are black/cream toile, with a black/white tiny check valance. The valance is repeated with the windows over the sink, stainless steel. All appliances are stainless steel. We have a black 'new' shag rug by the door leading to the garage. Dh put up dentil crown moulding, chair rail and picture frame wainscoting. I found tiny 'nightlight' lamps that have small shades on them, I found two in solid black and they look really well, they coordinate with the black/cream toile curtains. Above the kitchen table is a funky silver chandalier, the lights look like small calla lillies. I love our kitchen! It is very traditional and contemporary at the same time.

Our "new" kitchen is about 30 yrs old. It's a lovely shade of harvest gold, turquoise and orange. It is one of the first places we are redoing in the house. This pic was taken with the old owners belongings.

So Far we have taken down the icky harvest gold hood....gotten new appliances..and have new counter tops on order. We are planning to paint cabinets white, and the walls some similar color. The only thing that we are gonna keep is the tile of the backsplash.

Welcome to 2006!

I love my kitchen in my old house. DH and I redid it all. It is very tiny, but we painted the bottom of the walls a bight red and the top white. The bases for the cupboards are red and the doors are white with a round red knob. Between the red and white paint is a boarder that has fruits and veggies on it. It is boardered by a black and white check pattern. We also have balck and white cafe style curtains in the kitchen. DH put in all new white base boards. We have a lovely old stlye metal rack with our red pots and pans hanging over the stove. I do love my kitchen and am quite proud of the work that dh and I did on it. Now we have to start all over
