Friday Night Lights

Ask:
Did anyone watch this? I Tivo'd it and just watched it now...don't know how anybody else felt about it, but I will definitely watch it again!! The head coach on the show is the bomb squad guy that got blown up on Grey's Anatomy.

I don't know how it really represents high school football in Texas...but I felt like it was a "real" show...something tv hasn't had on in a very long time. It was passionate and the characters didn't look like they were acting, almost like a documentary...it even made me cry in the first episode!!

If you haven't seen it...try taking a look...it's on Tuesday's @ 8...I really recommend it!!
Answer:

I tivo'd it as well and watched it back yesterday....I thought it looked good by preview and of course Kyle Chandler (Bomb Squad Guy).... I REALLY LIKED it, It did strike me as a TV version of Varsity Blues though....I cried when they all stayed on the field and prayed after the game ....
Answer:

I only saw the end, which I thought was very powerful. My dh & son watched it and loved it. I know it's gotten great reviews. Hope it makes it. It's nice to have some family friendly shows to watch instead of all smut.
Answer:

My dh and I watched it and we liked it. Very moving at the end - I teared up. I think it will be one we'll try to watch every week.

If you like the show, i would recommend reading the book it is based on. "Friday Night Lights" i believe the Author's last name is Bissinger?? The movie was good also, Tim McGraw has a small part in it (but he plays a jerk!). The book was really good though, the author shadowed the Panthers football team from Odessa,Texas during the football season of 1988, so it can really relate to it,having graduated that year. I liked the book because you really got to know each player and their families and what it's like to play High School football in a state where football is an obsession to many.
Answer:

H.G. Bissinger is the author of Friday Night Lights. For some reason the edit button did not work on my previous post?
Answer:

I enjoyed it. i enjoy southern football and it's real. check it out
Answer:

I watched the first episode on the computer since I missed all but the end. I held my breath and cried the last 15 mins. I hope people watch this show. I read the ratings weren't that good for the first wk because lots of women think it's a show about "football", but it's really a show about the relationships of all these people and life in small town america.
Answer:

Dh and I both liked it and will probably continue to watch it. It does seem very realistic which in itself makes me a little sad. Its like all this town and everyone in it has is high school football. They only way out for these kids is football. The only thing middle aged parents have to live for is high school football. Everything revolves around these kids winning football games. The situation just seems sad to me, but yet I really enjoyed the show -- if that makes any sense at all.

It's exactly like how you explained it in the book also. It's what the whole town looks forward to each year, businesses even closed down early on game nights so that everyone can attend.
