How much do you keep in your checkings as a buffer zone?

Ask:
How much do you like to have at all times before you really start feeling broke or getting worried? I'm talking about after all the bills are paid.
Answer:

usually after the bills are paid and groceries and gas paid for we are lucky right now if we have 50 bucks. luckily i don't go anywhere but once a week for errands or gas would be a bigger issue. once we get caught up wich should be end of november dh get and extra paycheck and a bonus check we will be back to having a whopping 500 bucks in savings.
Answer:

I'd like to have about 300, but today I have 40. Lucky tomarrow is pay day. Next month will be better becuase dh will get an extra 150 a pay check now. Then come january he gets his annual raise and that should put us wear we need to be for now.
Answer:

I keep about 100-200 in there. sometimes above, sometimes below that.
Answer:

I have $200 in our account that I never wrote into the balance; so that's our "safety" cash. My DH doesn't even know it's in there - it was some money I had stashed.
Answer:

When I say we live "paycheck to paycheck" I'm not joking. With few exceptions, we only have a few dollars left in our account as we near payday (like for a few days before it). I've wanted to put in a buffer of like $100 (blind deposit like MN Mom) but I haven't been able to save the money for it. I'm trying to work on that. If I can't get it together sooner, we should be able to have a buffer in there from our extra paycheck in December. The sick "overdraw" fear that looms over me in the few days before a paycheck is getting to be old.
Answer:

I try to have a buffer of $500, meaning I don't budget that. Right now I'm down to $300, I've been bad and shopped on ebay!
Answer:

I usually only have $50-$100 extra in our checking account after budgeted expenses. The rest goes into our savings account. I am less likely to spend money if I have to transfer it.
Answer:

Oh, extra buffer money, what's that??? We live paycheck to paycheck. My dh is on disability, so that isn't much, and then I work as an instructional assistant, with one year to go before I teach, and that pay isnt' much either. When I graduate, I will TRIPLE my income.... WHEW HEW!!!!!

We won't know what to do to be caught up on bills!!

We stay one month behind on something....
Answer:

Wait.. you mean some people have money left over after bills?? Dang! let me in on that secret!

(that means, no, we have no money left in checking, I'm always broke and worried )
