I didnt see this posted anywhere spo thought to start a "discussion" on this subject.
my view, I think it stinks, somebody with ehr money can buy a child like that. Isnt she just copying what angalina Jolie and brad pitt did? is this the latest crazy, the new bag, the car, now the new adopted child! How can they bypass the rules and get a child so quickly?
My boss at work is looking to adopt a child and he has to get background checks, go to some classes, have case workers visit his house ect. and Madonna is above all this?
I am a fan of ehr music, but this is just her copying another celebrity and I dont think she has any good intention for the child. I dont think she cares less about the child.
Answer:
I too don't think that celebrities should be 'above' the law but I think it is absolutely commonplace for them to circumvent the system. I guess I don't see how this is any different than other situations where celebrities do this all they time.
I also don't understand why so many groups were talking about blocking the adoption. If we are really concerned about the welfare of the child - I think being Madonna's child would be better than being in an orphanage! I say - get every celebrity out there whose fit to be a parent to go adopt a child and give money to needy organizations - what's wrong with that??

Rosie mentioned it on the view this morning. Basically she said Madonna did file papers before she went there. There is no waiting list in Malawi.

I'm not a Madonna fan at all, but if she wants to follow the new Hollywood "In Thing" and adopt a child from a foreign country, then I see nothing wrong with that. Even if Madonna is just doing it for publicity, the child (hopefully) would have a better life with her than in an orphanage.
From what I remember reading about Angelina's adoptions, she did have to go through a background check and standard waiting period just like everyone else. She wasn't given preferential treatment just because she was a celebrity. I disagree with this country rearranging the laws just because Madonna's a celebrity. Madonna should have to go through the same background check and other procedures like any other Joe Schmoe. She shouldn't be given preferential treatment just because she can wave a lot of cash in someone's face.

I saw this, too. Rosie also mentioned that Madonna did a background check and finger printing.

I totally agree. No doubt in my mind that being in an orphanage in the poorest country in the world probably sucks pretty badly. Regardless of whether Madonna is doing this because it is the "in" thing or not, she is removing a child from a terrible situation and giving him the opportunity to grow up in a safe environment and have parents and siblings of his own. I don't see why it would need to be stopped.

I wonder if I could convince her to give ME the money to adopt a child from there?? I would be willing to do all the work, but it is the money that stops me from being able to. I think it would be pretty awesome if some of the stars would support these countries like that..by helping great wanna' be parents match up with some of the orphans. Who can I write about this?!!?

I think what they are concerned about is, ok, this is made easier for celebrities to adopt, but what is to stop other people who do not have the child's interest at heart from adopting. It makes it easier for human traffickers to adopt is the fear. Honestly, I can see this argument. That is the concern I have.
Sure, their life is pretty bad and I say the more kids we can help in the world, the better whoever does it, but I would like to keep as many safe as we can. I think life in an orphanage is probably better than at some horrible place in Bangkok, for example.
I have mixed emotions about it.

I think it is wrong if money gave her preferrential treatment, but it's not the first and won't be the last time this happens. The most important thing is the fact that a child was adopted and will be given a loving family and a better chance at life than if he was still in an orphanage. I'm not going to criticize her for adopting ie copying Jolie and Pitt. Maybe she truely wants more children and decided this was the best way. A needy child finds a home, and her chances of having a child with downs at her age is higher if she wanted a biological child.
A child found a home and that's the most important point.
