Madonnas fake accent

Ask:
Anyone else annoyed with her fake accent? Ive seen her on tv several times, most recently yesterday (I think) on Oprah and her fakeness really irritated me. And the funny thing is, she'd start talking normal, then jump into her what I am assuming is a london accent? Not a very good one either. She's been talking that way for years now. Why cant she just be herself? It sounds so phony.
Answer:

I don't know about Madonna but I personally pick up local dialects. When I visited Georgia for the first time, I picked up the drawl. When I moved to Italy, I worked amongst Napolitans and I started speaking choppy ENGLISH!!! I also learned Napolitan as opposed to proper Italian.

I also knew someone from back home who went on a year exchange to Australia and she came back speaking like an Aussie.

So to me it is possible. I don't know if Madonna's is a gimmic but from personal experience it can happen.
Answer:

Yep, bugs me, too. I pick up more of a Southern accent when I am in places like Tennesee or Georgia visiting, but to pick up a whole new accent? And then to go back and forth? It bugs me, too. Very fake.
Answer:

I grew up just an hour from Madonna in Michigan, so we had the same accent. I moved to Missouri, where the drawl is rather strong, and I still speak like I'm from Michigan for the most part after 13+ years. I have, though, heard myself say things with a bit of a twang and I have to think about pronouncing the words correctly at times. I think she has just always been more taken with the British, so she is mimicking to a certain extent, I would guess.

I just read this to my dh and read the responses and his first thought was for me to tell you that when I am on the phone with friends from back home (In Canada) I pick up my accent again immediately while on the phone with them. Same thing happens when I go home to visit them. When I return back to the states, my friends here say they can hear it too.

However, when I talk on the phone with friends of mine back home they say I sound like "A yanky".

I guess I'm a hybrid because I am not doing it on purpose. In fact, I don't even know when I am doing it! Scott actually had to tell me when I was in GA to "cut it out". I had held onto it and coudn't shake the drawl!!!
Answer:

Well, I think a lot of things about Madonna are fake, but concerning her accent, I agree with ChristyK, I think she's picked it up from living in London, she's lived there for years, I think her husband is British(I may be wrong about that) I'm betting her kids speak with an accent too. But, It is Madonna, so who knows!! lol!!

I know when I'm around my friends or family from the south, I start saying "ya'all" and sound twangy, I think its funny, and kinda cute!!
